    Re: Tamco?

Fair enough. It remains a fact though, that Facebook is generally more likely to feature updates more quickly than many web sites, which can often be fairly neglected in many cases, and much more...

Re: more accurate clip on tuner than Snark?

How many of you use an app on your mobile phone? Perhaps not ideal in a stage situation, but pretty handy around the house.

Well his Facebook page seems to have been active up to 16th August.
I can see that he may not be wanting to buy in much more stock though.

Re: Octave Mandolin - capo question

From the 12th fret I prefer to play mandolin!

BUT I do really like the sound of my Sobell octave capoed up at the 8th fret, which I use for songs or tunes in F. It's not like I can't play in the...
  7. Re: Is playing TABS detrimental to really learning?

One advantage of TAB is that you can show different possible ways of fingering, especially if you get out of first position.
Typically a TAB arrangement only uses the most obvious first position...

    Re: Which Budget Fingerstyle Guitar?

I note that 12 fret guitars are getting the thumbs up, mostly for comfort of playing, it seems.
You could include me in that . I have been playing an all mahogany 12 fret Martin for a while now, and...

  11. Re: Looking for Music Documentary Recommendations

    Hi Paul,

Nice to hear from you. Yes we're fine thanks.

I've seen most of those TG4 documentaries including Arty. To be honest, they're all worth watching. I decided to just give a sample of...
  12. Re: What are your favorite albums featuring mandolin?

[QUOTE=tmsweeney;1783099] I agree with Northwest Steve about Reischman, his playing on The Tony Rice Unit's "Backwaters" is exceptional and I think influenced a lot of today's hot pickers. /QUOTE]

  13. Re: Looking for Music Documentary Recommendations

I don't know if your tastes run towards Irish music, but there are some excellent documentaries on the Irish TV channel TG4.

You might enjoy this one on guitarist Steve Cooney...
  14. Re: Meet new duo The Foreign Landers - David and Tabitha Benedict

Just me, my 10 string mandolin and my firebowl just after 9.30 last night. The tune is Mull Of The Mountains.

  17. Re: Music and Nature Videos - Sobell Banjo Lute and Flute

[QUOTE=Paul Roberts;1782275]I have a mid-1980s Sobell 10-string cittern that I swap back and forth from 10-string fifth's tuning, to five strings (in 5-string banjo orientation). So, going from a...

    Yes, masterly in every way.
  21. Re: Playing a collings - what would an "upgrade" really get me?

Your Collings is a very good mandolin, and will do you fine. I've got a MT which has served me very well, and provides me with a different style and sound of mandolin than the Sobell 10 stringer...
