  1. Re: Newbie: Which electric-acoustic to buy?

I've owned 5 Eastman mandolins, from the 300 level to the 800 and 900 level. The one that sounded best to me was an MD-505. All instruments vary individually. Eastman is producing high quality...
  2. Re: Newbie: Which electric-acoustic to buy?

The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 will do the impedance matching. No need to add a preamp. I was unaware that you had something like that already. Sweet piece of kit!
Acoustic amps should also be fine...
  3. Re: Newbie: Which electric-acoustic to buy?

    Nope.
It'll be a passive pickup just like the one they would install in the MD305.

You can save some coin by buying a JJB pickup instead of the K&K, but the installation costs will be the same....

Re: Nylon strings on Blueridge BR40T?

I'm not sure how you'll be able to use nylon strings since the bridge is made for ball end strings. I strum my steel string guitar and tenor with my fingers. I think you just need to get used to it....
  7. Re: Tuners for Collings MT Mandolin (A Style)

I had no issues at all with the Rubner tuners.
The difference in shaft length is negligible.

Re: F5 with an OVAL hole?

I saw a beautiful Eddie Blevins F4 hybrid recently in the classifieds.
He calls it the F4H model.

  9. Re: Tuners for Collings MT Mandolin (A Style)

Most standard A style tuning machines will work.
I recommend Rubners. They are a big step up from the Golden Age tuners that come standard on the MT....
  10. Re: how much should I offer for this mandolin

Looking through Reverb listings, it looks like the asking price on that model is about $700-$800, with original case.
Depending on the year, it may be made in Japan or Korea, with the Japanese...
  11. Re: Planetary tuners or guitar style on tenor banjo?

  12. Planetary tuners or guitar style on tenor banjo?

I just picked up a Gold Tone Cripple Creek Tenor Banjo, used for a good price.

Re: Are People Buying Less Mandolins Now?

I think the lower end of the market is doing just fine price and volume wise. I'm currently selling some instruments to fund another purchase, and they sold on Reverb within a week at a fair price. ...

    Re: Mandolin discounts?

Doubt you'll see a discount on a new Northfield.
