  2. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

The links above expired, but in the meantime, I'm curious if anyone knows if the the Patent/Trademark is for the headstock with the fern inlay only, or each either together or separately? E.g. a...

At home we pretty much exclusively stream Folk Alley, have for years. Highly recommend it.

Otherwise albums that we've purchased and are on our system, or occasionally stream other stations for...

Re: Storage: Case vs Hanging on the Wall

For whatever reasons I always keep my mandolins in their cases, don't really like them on a stand, and I've never been a fan of hanging instruments on the wall. I don't mind guitars or banjos in...

Not this year, but have fun. It's a great festival, been around a long time.
  7. Re: Question of Decorum: Asking Small Shop Builder to Change Inla

Builders generally want their customers to be happy with the instruments, playing them and showing them around.

Go ahead and ask, and know they get many questions like that, some of them maybe...

Re: In praise of mandolin builder Matt Ruhland

    Nice. Warm and resonant.

Sounds like a wool sweater and whiskey.
  10. Re: Moving past my F9...looking for recommendations.

At the risk of jumping into a nearly bottomless conversation pool here, given the many many fine builders out there, I'll just recommend one for you to consider: Kimble.

    Bluegrass sound, with his...

Tim Connell is the mandolin player in the foreground. I can't tell who the other is.

    Re: Leave leather strap on?

    +1

I've kept leather straps on mandolins and banjos in the cases for years, no issues at all. I only take them off my guitars due to the nature of the strap and how it fits in the case.

    Yowza!

Congrats to you both. And congrats to Matt for building at such an amazing level.
  17. Re: Northfied Artist Model at TME and New V 4.0's

Guess I'll have to view it on the web site, if it lasts long enough to get there.
  18. Re: Northfied Artist Model at TME and New V 4.0's

Thanks for passing that along. Guess the Kimble isn't on their website yet.
  19. Re: Northfied Artist Model at TME and New V 4.0's

I noticed Elderly has a similar 2-bar Artist. Almost looks like they came from the same batch. Nice.
  20. Northfied Artist Model at TME and New V 4.0's

That new 2-bar is stunning. I'm looking forward to the sound clip, but I suspect it may sound in line with its looks.

I haven't been able to find out about the price of the new Northfield V 4.0...

    Straight Up Strings

I've always used the same strings on my mandolins, and had no particularly reason to change brands or sizes.

I was given a free set of SUS Mediums a while back and put them on at my last string...

  23. Re: Who bought the broken Northfield on eBay this weekend

Gryphon, or any other reputable repair department, won't allow anyone who isn't qualified do a neck reset. And they, like others, have a qualified and skilled team.

I suspect the OP didn't intend...
