    Re: Wood I.D. Help

Looks like BRW, but as the others said, sand a bit of the edge and smell it or have someone that knows the difference do it for you.

    Re: Tuning peg problem

This may be too obvious, but worth trying. I have found on not just those tuners, but similiar tuners, that sometimes just tightening the screw that holds the gear on is all that is needed. Loosen...

    Re: D String Fret Buzz

If you went with a lighter string when you changed, it could be that you may need a different setup, re; truss rod adjustment, bridge adjustment, etc.

Re: Douglas fir as a tonewood...

I've seen several of Howard's mandolins with DF and owned one but had to send it back because it split. Howard took care of very quickly and made a new top for it that has held up well.

Re: Stradivari (again) - maybe the final word ?.

Re: Keeping screws on tuning buttons tight

I have used a dab of super glue on the bottom of the head of the screw for years. It stays on and will come off when I want it to. As for tightness of the screw, just lightly snug is all you need.....
  19. Re: Gibson neck join - how on earth do you get the thing off?
