I prefer the Godin to my Rigel A+ Deluxe in the relatively loud amplified settings I usually encounter. No feed-back, nice action, acceptable tone.
It's the only mando I use on gigs nowadays.

Sorearm,
There may be an old thread on this subject. I bought a new Godin, December 2002, and by February 2003 the top had sunk, giving me a nice, low action.
It was a great-sounding mandolin....
As Mooh says, the action is easy to adjust. Slacken the strings, remove the three neck screws, shim and re-assemble.
The action on my first Godin wasn't too bad but after some months the front...
Love the mando and the dog!
Actually I saw the post-title and was trying to figure out what notes to use for an F5#6 chord.
Too much X'mas food possibly.
Glad I looked.
How loud are those big 6-string bass guitars the Mexican mariachi bands use - the guitarrons? They're supposed to hold their own in the company of trumpets. Have never heard one live, though.
We've had gigs most nights this month so far and continuing. Only once did the sound-man get everything right. We're a bit big - 5 singers miked, 2 cuatros, congas, bass, guitar, me on mandolin,...
That's why I asked the question here, Markish. The idea of a hole came to me because a guitarist friend who is a fancy woodworker couldn't stand the idea of his instrument having a built-in pre-amp...
A picture would be a good idea but I have no experience with cell phone cameras and don't know if they can do close-ups.
The bridge is glued on like many typical guitar bridges.
There is a saddle...
Lord have mercy, Joe, you could probably do brain surgery in your spare time!
Did I mention it's real dark in there? Maybe I can stick in a bulb from the wife's X'mas tree.
I haven't been able...
The cuatro is like a small 4-stringed guitar, much used in Venezuelan music.
On one of the cuatros in our group, a wire has come loose from the p/u under the bridge. The sound hole is 21/2 inches...
I'm getting a bit confused here.
I know drummers tune their various drums in some sort of ratio. But there's no time to retune between tunes. So how come they don't conflict when we're not in their...
Many years ago we used to use a "duh-dup" which was a 2-note steelband drum. I don't know if it is possible, but it seemed as if the drum used to pick up the notes from the bass and reinforce them....
I know tympani are tuned to different pitches and must be retuned during a performance.
But what about other drums?
This year we've used a djembe player and it often sounds like it is producing...
Two slightly off-topic questions if I may:
1. One guy on this site mentioned using Thomastik-Infeld strings on his Godin. That's like $33 a set compared to $5.98 for J74s. Are T-Is that much better?...
Check him out on Charmaine (mp3). My Gawd, he swings!
He also downtunes the G string to F# while playing the last chorus. Talk about a show-off!
There's also a Mandolin Magazine article about him...
But consistently the best piezo that I have used are the double K&K's. They're a bear to get in and attach, but I think worth the effort. They sound good without a preamp, but real sweet with a Baggs...
I'm not all that happy with the sound of my A+ plugged in. Peter Mix suggested that some piezos were "hotter" than others and maybe I should change that.
I think I saw one in the classifieds where...

What is the procedure for opening this file? I'm not familiar with TablEdit.
I would like to see a version in standard...
"Pick angle--if you hit the strings with the pick at a flat, perpendicular angle, you'll be slapping the string. I like to get a loud, warm sound by picking at a slight angle, tipping my right...
Richard H- if you go beyond mandolin and listen to music from, say, any non-western country, you'll hear notes you didn't know existed. It's very cool out there, and they've been doing it that way...
Mandocrucian,
You're joking, right?
Why don't we scrap frets and notes altogether and write music in Hz? Unlimited variation.
But then again music is already being used as a form of torture...
Wow! When we start using quarter tones like I understand they do in African music, someone's gonna have a lot of fun with this intonation thing.
What do they call those notes anyway? Is the note...
A cuatro is a wonderful, handy instrument and easy to play. It is tuned to the same notes as the uke (I think) but the first string is low.
Or you can tune it like the first four strings of a...

has some interesting info on this.

Since this is so, there must be a measurable difference in...
