    I have two Girouard mandolins and one of which is a F4 with a Port Orford Cedar top . To my ears the oval sound is Crystal clear with a lot of sustain. Love the sound that PO produces and workmanship...

    Save your money and try to find a used Girouard A5 or oval. For not much more and you can have a new Girouard. Fantastic instruments !

    Started with an Eastman A5, then an Eastman F5 915 with an extremely poor setup and fret replacement from a dealer in Florida, then a very good Oldwave oval, then a Northfield with finish problems...

    I have Waverly, Rubner and other less expensive tuners. Never had any problem with any of them , cheap or expensive !

    Buy the mandolin that suits your ear to begin with and enjoy playing and don't worry about the potential appreciation ! Buy a used A built by relatively well known makers which you can find on this...
