    Sweeeet!
  2. Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

I think the seller just made a typo and put a comma in the wrong place. The original cost of the mandolin alone was $499.95, I think he meant $500.00 for a ten year old item. But I could be wrong.

Re: If you are a fan of block inlays.....

I have never been a fan of position markers on the fingerboard, of any kind at all. I am a huge fan of the Lyon and Healy models and love the asymmetric two point design. However, this Smart is...

    Re: project mandolin on Ebay

Looks like the neck was broken out and took the button with it. Also looks like a really low neck angle. No thanks.

I would say it is worthless.

Sorry, could not help it. :)
  8. Re: My wife has stored it for years,no markings I can see

I agree with Rick. The bottom and the top sections are two different pieces of wood. Grain lines clearly are not lined up, esp on the treble side.
Also, on bent tops, the cut is made on the inside...

    Re: Recognize this one?

Sure looks like walnut to me.

So you won it, the seller reneged and is now listing it on craigslist? Is he afraid to ship it?

Yea those guys are pretty cool, definitely have some chops.

The thing about getting a D'Armond floating pickup is finding one. The ones I see listed on the net are thru the roof with their asking...

    Re: Hollow Body Electric Tenors

MTQuinn, the pickup has a bracket that clamps to the strings behind the bridge. The pickup slides up and down on a metal rod, when you find a spot you like the tone of, you can use a small amount of...

    Re: Hollow Body Electric Tenors

I used to own a mid 50's Gibson TG-50 that I put a De'Armond floating pickup on. Ran it thru a Fender tube amp with a second "master volume" knob, it was killer! You could get a smooth jazz tone to a...

    Re: refinish top

Rather then refinishing the entire top, Max and Laurie could touch up the worn area and blend it in. Like I said, they are great to deal with and very talented instrument makers.

    Good luck!

    Re: Just an observation

Not as bad as the furniture store in Raleigh NC, where I used to live, that had a "Going Out Of Business-SALE" sign in it's window for twenty years.
