There is a jamming tent on the grounds, but once the PAs start up on the stages nearby, you can't hear yourself think, let alone pick. I have heard some picking sessions at some of the campgrounds....
Annnddd.... TOO MANY GREAT ACTS TO EVEN LIST!!!
Hope you feel better!
It's 9-10 hours each way for us - last year we had to drive straight home for a 10 pm :disbelief::crying: sound check. ...
All of them - by most listeners, anyway. :mandosmiley:

I'm looking forward to seeing them (and Sam Bush, Sierra Hull, Larkin Poe, Donna the Buffalo, etc. etc. etc.) at Merlefest in a few days.

Major and minor for a rainy and sunny day. Named for a fancied resemblance to Kitchen Gal. In the Vaguely Celtic genre.

I've had an M1X for several months and it's worked out fine, but the tuners don't hold very well. Which tuners would be an improvement, and fit the spacing of the ones on it?
Thanks!

Well... that was a lengthy post, huh?

David Crosby recorded Joni Mitchell's first album with her singing into a grand piano. He miked the strings to add extra resonance, Didn't turn out well.

I've never owned anything else - Kentucky 150, Flatiron A5 Jr (my main mandolin), Gibson A0, Big Muddy.
Scrolls are nice, but those points are in odd places, don't you think?

I've played Sheebeg Sheemor, too. Also Morgan Magan. First time anybody actually paid me to play mandolin.

Harry Smith-style plot summary: BOY MEETS GIRL AMIDST STATED VEGETATION, HE GETS FRESH WITH HER, IS SPURNED, GOES OFF TO SULK,...
I was beginning to doubt the veracity of my calendar.

Thanks, all. I bought a set of flats from Emando. I might try a heavier gage e string to get the volume more even. Single strings aren't hard to get.

Crazyquilt and steve-
I'm going by Sweetwater later today - I'll check on a single string. Thanks!

Thanks, Bill. I'd seen his ads for instruments, didn't know he sold strings, too - choices, even!

I'm down to my last set. Who sells ball-end sets? My usual sources, Elderly and Sweetwater, don't seem to carry such a thing. (I could buy single strings and make my own sets, of course.)

Thanks - they cross lyrics, so I get them mixed up.

Definitely not a bluegrass version - last solo is electric mandolin.

It's a boy, Mrs. Walker, it's a boy.

That was great - mysterious and deep.

I bought a used Big Muddy for $400 couple months ago - it's fine.
I played a Goldtone flattop (GM10) recently. Not bad (but thick finish and changing the strings is said to be difficult). $600...
First recorded by Doc Watson. I was reminded of the song by Hannah Sanders' and Ben Savage's great recent version.

I've been thrown out of a number of barrooms for not drinking enough.
