    Re: Improvising

    1. Because you have to start somewhere.
    2. Interesting or boring is a matter of taste.
    3. Many situations (jams) have unbounded repetoire choice so rehearsal for specific tunes is not possible....
  2. Re: Sirius Radio Replaced Bluegrass station 62 with 24/7 Dolly Pa

Thatís true, but I donít want her usurping other music I enjoy.
  3. Re: Mandolin players who bought or have played a Waterloo Mandoli

Tailpieces where you have to thread the strings through them is a terrible design IMHO. My Weber has it as well.

    Re: Opus mandolin

Just play a scale. We’d love to hear the tone.
  5. Re: Sirius Radio Replaced Bluegrass station 62 with 24/7 Dolly Pa

I’m not thrilled either so I’m diving I to my playlists and other genres. I think it’s a horrible decision.

Re: Visit to Carter Vintage Guitars

My instruments also sound better when played by world class players. I'm just not one of them:crying:

Re: First repair - all advice welcome

One other note. The forum threads are archived back for at least 15 years. Most questions are not new and an enormous variety topics have been addressed, many at great lengths over multiple years. ...

Re: First repair - all advice welcome

I see you are eager to make progress. As a general rule, thoughtful planning is more useful than quick action. I would generally refrain from taking steps until I had the entire process worked out....

    Re: Improvising

Simple specific exercise given to me by my teacher:
    a. Create a simple 4 bar progression on a backing track. Progression could be I-IV-V-I or I-iim-V-I.
    b. Choose 4 notes from the home key using...
  10. Re: Tip: Replacing Book Bindings with Spiral Bindings

Just a note, I cut my own books rather than have the binding folks do that. I’ve had them ruin books by cutting into the print making the books unusable. I just cut them in half repeatedly until...

    Re: Right Hand Technique

I too have suffered catching the index finger under a string while playing from the closed hand position. For me it was happening if I relaxed the curl of my hand and the index finger would drift...

Roy looks like he’s hanging on for dear life while Jethro just smokes it.

    Re: Missing the bluegrass sound

Its hard to be born full grown.

Give yourself a little more time, measured in years, not months.

Re: Hacked, Dude construction pages down

Everybody's just an IP address, scans are run looking for vulnerabilities and then attacked programmatically. If you're a bank or something else special with data or $, you get targeted by the...

    Re: Givens A

Test drive them blindfolded, with someone handing you the unknown instruments. All you'd know is A from F. I think a lot of facts would suddenly be swept away by the cold stream of the reality you...

    Re: Weber, the best years.

Mine’s maple, not mahogany. 1998. Bruce did some setup work on it a few years ago and told me it’s the fourth one made. Good right out of the gate. Great fit and finish, big sound.

    Played...

    Re: EM-150 questions

I don't think it left any factory that way. For an em-150, the pickup is wrong, the knobs are in the wrong location, we won't even talk about the screws through the top.

    Might have started life...

Re: $200 to dress mandolin frets? Ouch!

The price for not inconveniencing the builder is apparently about $100, from your description of the issues. The shop seems to be reasonable in its price given that it has plenty of work in their...
