  1. Re: Stephen Fearing's New Manzer Cowpoke

Well, I disagree this puts nothing to rest in the breaking in argument. I believe instruments change over time but the sad truth our hearing observations are way less than perfect. Until someone can...

    Re: Straps

Earlier this year I did a six strand braid with leather strips. It is without a doubt the most comfortable mandolin strap I have tried. That round brains with no inside flexes nicely and cushions...

    Re: A-String Buzz

I would start simply with is the fret lifted, how is the nut slot, and what is my neck relief including checking for twist, that alone will let you know what needs to be done next. Just remember one...

    Re: 2019 Tune-A-Week Project

Love it! In a previous post, we discussed your thumb movement. I was curious how it would work out so I have tried it a few times and found it is oddly quickly reactive for instance I think it helps...

    Re: Right Hand Technique

That has to hurt but how did you jam it under your fingernail if you were keeping it parallel to the strings? When I hold the pick up close like that my index is curled up inside my thumb lightly not...

    Re: Who has thin bluechips?

I have never tried a speed bevel but I don’t have any issue with the normal BC edge. I mentioned in another thread I always used thick picks, 2-3 mm or more. But going to BC I didn’t need them that...

    Re: A-String Buzz

I thought the same thing but after several humidifiers one a big tank job and the need this spring to remove the trim in my room because of molds I will stick with my case humidifiers and or a...

    Re: A-String Buzz

Humidity is a pain. I have gone form just over 50% in my house to just over 30% in a couple of weeks. Now I need to get everything into cases. I keep them in cases all the time outside of my house...

    Re: Thick Picks?

I always thought I liked thicker picks but I think it came down to stiffer picks. I notice with teh Blue Chip picks I don't need a 3mm big stubby to get the same feel for me and results.

    Re: Who has thin bluechips?

I went the other direction but most don't like a pointy pick I have a couple TP1R 40 and 60 but I also have the BC Jazz LG 60. I find the pointy fatter pick gives some of the attack and brightness...

Re: Mandolin sound changing over time

Interesting and funny to read this thread and the past ones like it and once again the only thing I really take from it is, never buy an instrument counting on it braking in and sounding better if it...

Re: What is this wood figuring called?

I asked this same question when I got my Oldwave. I don't know that I did a great job getting a good picture and I tried blowing one up but the silking is really cool on this top in person.

I understand the instrument may not be set up as far as height goes to everyone's liking but that is completely different than sending one out with an unfinished or poor set up. Unfinished and poo is...
