    Re: S.I.T. Strings?

J Bovier mandos come with them installed. I liked them but ended up switching to J74s for no real reason. They sounded good and I thought they held up pretty well. Of course, they were the first...

    Re: Strat buzz

Yep - my experience with the CS Tx Specials, and Fat50s has been the same - very high G and D poles. I never use anything less than fatty strings, so it was never an issue.

    Re: Strat buzz

Have you completely removed the bridge saddle on the G string? Try removing the saddle - I've seen bits of string or string wrapping get lodged under a saddle and cause buzzing before. Just a...

  15. Re: Looking For Listening Recommendations...

In the jamgrass/newgrass arena I really dig Greensky Bluegrass these days. Their mando picker, Paul Hoffman, really makes that Newson sing.

Yep - call Jeff directly. He'll give you the straight info. Great guy to deal with.

Well, consider that Stevie Ray Vaughan looked like he was trying to pass a peach pit sideways. Makes Thile look downright placid.
  18. Re: Budget for new acquisition - Is mine Mickey Mouse?

There's been some pretty sweet used mandos on the classifieds that retailed more than your budget new, and are well below it used. That distressed Yellowstone and a Newson (search - about 30 days...

Ken Ratcliff had a used Silverangel F on the classified recently for under $3K. Might be worth calling him and seeing if he still has it. I was jonesing for it pretty bad but I'm broke.
