  1. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

I'm sure it has no impact. This is the same company in name only. The working folks might be the same but the senior management team is totally different. It's new people directing this.

    Re: Tailpiece Cover

Good news about decent period correct worm over tuners. I've certainly talked to Stewmac about it to no avail, it will be nice if they actually enter the fray. As for the tailpiece I did find the...

If you can get anything north of $75.00 for it do a happy dance.
  5. Re: Looking For Information on this Mandolin

I'm going to guess the builder just bought the wrong tuners. I have to assume he built the thing looking at another mandolin. An inexperienced person wouldn't catch the tuner difference between worm...

    Re: 1921 Gibson F4 question

That scroll wear does look familiar. I think it's been here before as well.
  7. Re: Looking For Information on this Mandolin

By the way, there is a Mike Mike Draughn on Facebook that has a profile picture of an older gentleman playing the guitar. No idea if it's the same person.

    Re: Reverb acquired by Etsy...

Actually it looks like it might be a fit. I shop Reverb, I've only managed to actually find one item there to buy.
  9. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

I believe the owner of the Cafe has said that he wouldn't name the people that he was aware of that got the letter. He would rather that information would be made public by them.
  10. Re: Looking For Information on this Mandolin

The tuners appear to be Schaller worm over tuners if that matters to anyone other than me.
  11. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

This one is not even close. I'd have to really look to answer that question.

To give you an idea of where this stands look at this thread and I do not think it's the longest thread.

    Another is...
  12. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

Are you kidding me? I'm a paid Painter's tape endorser.

I'm thinking of having a blue swatch of that stuff inlaid on the headstock of my mandola.

Re: Found this old mando in a bookstore

It was a standard tailpiece cover that fit on a Waverly base like the cloud. They made them for decades. Look at the pictures of the tailpiece base in this thread.
  16. Re: Flatiron FG5 Sign by Michael Owens Information?Any body know

Sim Daley always signed the underside of the mandolins he built at Gibson. I was under the impression he was the only one that did it. Now I'm going to have to look inside mine.

    And, mine is from...

Re: Found this old mando in a bookstore

The tailpiece was probably new when it was built. They were still available a few years ago. I thought that back was a piece of Luan plywood but it has an arch.

Maybe someone cut the back off and...

Re: Found this old mando in a bookstore

I think we have seen a mandolin like this before but I have no idea how to find it.

I would have bought it for $50.00.
  20. Re: Cutting an F4 sound hole - Walkthrough?

There is at least one (probably more) threads on the subject in this search of the cafe.

After you cut the hole you might appreciate this thread on cutting and installing the rosette.

    Re: Tailpiece Cover

I've been looking at the Prucha's but they just aren't the same. It's just kind of weird. They are just slightly different. I'll probably end up using a James Tailpiece on this and that's not a bad...

    Re: Tailpiece Cover

I'm pretty familiar with what the shops carry and I'm not looking for a Gibson branded product. I'm hoping someone can identify the manufacturer for me. I'm not holding out too much hope on this one.

    Tailpiece Cover

I'm hoping somebody might have a clue as to who makes the modern Gibson tailpieces, specifically the ones that use this cover. Note the sharp crisp folds. I'm not looking for one with Gibson on it,...
