  1. Re: Guess that rig - Jarrod Walker edition

I can’t speak on the pickup but I think that’s a DPA 4099. I think I can see the microdot connector from here (microdot is the connection that DPA uses for their 4099 series mics). Though curious...

Re: LL Waverly tuners in classifieds

It doesnt hurt to have documentation, especially for resell purposes) but the seller is a legend in the bluegrass scene. Hes owned plenty of Loars throughout the years and Id trust he knows his...

    Re: Ookpik Waltz- Chris Thile

I didnt mean any disrespect to the composer. I know Thile didnt write the tune at the time of the transcription as all the tunes on that record were already in the bluegrass rep. Im assuming the...

    Re: 1992 Nugget A Deluxe #155

Just tried this mandolin yesterday since I was bopping around town. VERY good mandolin... whoever ends up getting it should be pretty happy with it!

Re: Andy Statman Bought A Loar F5!

I think I've had enough internet for the day..
  9. Re: F'in Mandolin Shootout with a Nugget, Gilchrist and Hogan!

I wouldn't have played your mandolin with these top dogs if it didn't deserve to be in the mix Adrian! You build top quality stuff and it shows in your work. Keep on putting out some beautiful work,...
  10. Re: F'in Mandolin Shootout with a Nugget, Gilchrist and Hogan!

Boom, straight from the source! Looked at the inside of this one and it seems like #19 might have the mildly torrified top wood on it.

Love having the Cafe where builders, players and fans can...
  11. Re: F'in Mandolin Shootout with a Nugget, Gilchrist and Hogan!

The Hogan is topped with Carpathian spruce (at least this is what I was told) and European Curly Maple for the back and sides. I know Adrian started to harvest some of the back and side woods...
  12. Re: F'in Mandolin Shootout with a Nugget, Gilchrist and Hogan!

You would be right on the money.
  13. Transcription of Thile on the song 'Bluebird'

Here is a transcription of a Thile solo on Cory Wong's song 'Bluebird.' I put a video of me playing it so you could see what my hands are doing (not saying how I play it is how he played it, but it...

D Minor Partita No. 2: II. Corrente

You could replay this 9 times and have your halftime Super Bowl entertainment (please don't do this, that's way too many times).

Re: Which way do musicians make more money?

Let's take the platform Napster, which is one of the best streaming platforms in terms of pay per stream. They pay around $.00916 per stream (or a song, if you want to think about it that way)......

Invention in D Minor BWV 775

Another installment of trying to learn some short Bach Inventions (so that the solo violin partitas and sonatas don't eat me alive).

Had a blast putting this video together. Got a motorized...

    Re: Nugget Info 2021

I played one of the Loar bench copies Mike built. Truly one of his best instruments, if it ever came up for sale I would buy it in a heartbeat. Serial Number #300 isn't a Loar bench copy though it is...
  19. F'in Mandolin Shootout with a Nugget, Gilchrist and Hogan!

    Hello and Happy New Year!

I wanted to start off my saying I am not a fan of the word shootout because it gives the connotation that I am comparing these mandolins which isn't/wasn't my intention....
  20. Re: Invention in C Major BWV 772 Nugget F5 and Northfield Octave

Well... how does this look/sound to you? This is a video recorded by my phone (both audio/video) then uploaded straight to YouTube. No processing on the audio or video. I would reckon most people...
  21. Re: Invention in C Major BWV 772 Nugget F5 and Northfield Octave

Thanks for the kind message Eric. I plan on having a new video here in the very near future (Invention in D Minor)!

I actually am planning on selling the Hogan :( Not because it isn't a killer...
  22. Re: Invention in C Major BWV 772 Nugget F5 and Northfield Octave

The studio engineers are just as bad about gear talk and acquisitions as us mandolin pickers ;). I'd say work with what you got for now. You should upgrade when it becomes apparent to you that you...
  23. Re: Invention in C Major BWV 772 Nugget F5 and Northfield Octave

Good questions, things I overlooked in the explanation! I am indeed playing the mandolin part first then recording the octave mandolin part afterwards, listening to the mandolin part as reference....
  24. Re: Invention in C Major BWV 772 Nugget F5 and Northfield Octave

    Absolutely!

I really start off with good lighting. It can be something as simple as a strong reflector shop light (I am using a Godox SL-150 as my key light meaning it is my main light source)....
  25. Re: Invention in C Major BWV 772⎜Nugget F5 and Northfield Octave

I plan on doing all of them, though a mandocello would be really nice for these... Oh to dream... Hoping next week I can film the Invention in D minor.
