    Re: Choir Practice Turns Fatal

Sad story but we are headed in the wrong direction here. There are plenty of places to have this discussion on the Internet.
  4. Re: Fixing up a cheap case - is 3M spray adhesive a bad idea?

The gas would be the least of your worries. Leave it open in the air a few days in your garage and it will air itself out. The bigger problem is if there is any contact between anything vinyl and a...

Re: old Flatiron, old guy, some thoughts

Now if he can only hang onto it for another 70 or 80 years there's a chance, a slim chance it might be valuable.

Re: old Flatiron, old guy, some thoughts

There's no problem with making it playable and making it the way you want it to be. It's not of great historical significance and is probably a really decent mandolin. It's yours, you can do with it...

    Re: A Tiny surprise....

I was surprised to see him using a copy on the second video posted. Then again Willie Nelson isn't playing Trigger in the first video.

    Re: A Tiny surprise....

I love the story Glen Campbell told about figuring out the guitar leads to a song not knowing Tiny was playing it on a mandolin.

    Re: Strap Recommendation

A leather bootlace is probably the cheapest strap around. A good number of the pickers you'll run into at jams are just using that. I just make my own straps using leather straps but there are...
  12. Re: Just removed my "Florida"...myself..with a coping saw...

I actually scooped the extension on my F5G years ago. I went forward with the courage of the ignorant and some help from a page on Frank Ford's www.frets.com. I started out with a small laminate...

    Re: Guitar Center

It's funny, there are a few guitars that I have been jonesing after for the last six months or so that I'm not even thinking about anymore. I have instruments I need to send on down the road that are...
  15. Re: Just removed my "Florida"...myself..with a coping saw...

You may have to take the strings off but if you square it off and remove the fret you should be able to create a ledge to finish it off with binding. You might have a long enough piece that you could...
  16. Re: The virus, the economy, mandolins and you

I picked up the first instrument I've picked up in a few weeks today. I was playing and singing some songs for my grandsons in Maryland that I haven't seen in a month and a half and won't see for at...

    RIP Kenny Rogers

Back when he was first starting out, before they became Kenny Rogers and The First Edition. This was the first I heard of him when this hit the radio in the 60's.

    Re: Social Distancing

The Mandolin Cafe owner and moderators have always practiced social distancing, well at least they keep their distance from me. I don't blame them, I would too.

    Re: Hypothetical Wierd Question ?

if you spend any time in any of the museums that have stringed instruments you can find guitars (and I assume mandolins) that are built this way. I know I've seen one at Martin and at the Opryland...
