Re: is an arm rest a benefit to technique ?

It is personal preference. I love Doug Edwards' and Spencer Oliver's arm rests and have one or the other on all of my mandolins. I would try it and see if it works for you. If it does, great! If not,...

    Re: Reduce costs pleased

If the price of mandolins is what the economy hinges on, we're in big trouble. :))

In seriousness, I think there are going to be more instruments being offered up for sale on the used market...

    Re: Eastman mandolins

I personally prefer the dot inlay on the Eastman 500 series compared to the block inlay on the 600 series.
I'd buy the 515 and then fit it with a JJB Prestige 220 which is essentially the same...

Re: Gigs Cancelled - Health and Safety

Our weekly gig is suspended until further notice. We've kept our gigs scheduled beyond May 1, for now, but removed everything for the rest of March and April.

    Re: JBovier

I'm a fan of the JBovier mandolins and have owned 5 of them. I still have 1 that I will not be letting go of.
Still one of the best values available for $1500 or less.
    Glad to hear you are...

    New, I'd checkout a Kentucky KM-250.
    Used, I'd find a JBovier A5

Re: Learning to play with one less finger

Ouch! Hope it heals fully and quickly for you.
A few years ago I sliced the tip of my left index finger to the bone. Hurt like hell and required stitches. Couldn't use it to play for about 6 weeks....

Re: Anyone seen an Eastman El Rey?

I played a friend's Eastman El Rey last week.
I loved it! The neck feels just like the Eastman acoustic mandolins. Super comfortable. I like that it has a floating bridge like an acoustic. Sounds...

    Re: Ibanez M522 top collapsing

I'm not sure they're is much to gain by attempting this type of work on a $300 pressed top mandolin. If you want some practice, try building a carved top for it instead.

Personally, I love them and have one on every mandolin I own.
  22. Re: Vintage photo of a Lyon & Healy two point

    Cool photo!

I played an excellent condition 100 year old L&H style B the other day at Woodsongs in Boulder. It was great! It was bested by the 103 year old L&H style A that was hanging beside it.

    Re: Recommendation for an electric?

I am a fan of the Epiphone Mandobird 4. Especially if you upgrade the pickup with an Almuse.
Looks like that one is located in France, so shipping might not be cheap.
