  1. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

I'm pretty sure I'll go through withdrawal when the series ends.

I love seeing the instruments being used in the background shots. There was at least one, maybe two Bigsby guitars tonight.
  2. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

The second night was as good as the first night.

    Re: Latest build electric mandolin

Well, he is in Jersey :)

He should have got one of those Revlon lipstick tubes for the pickup cover. They were in New Jersey at the time as well.

    Rick Turner would probably appreciate...

It was great. A whole lot of old mandolins flashed across the screen. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Re: 1915 Gibson A Pickguard issue

They are tedious and on occasion will let go from the pickguard and stay in the neck. As Bob said, they are just small nails. Pretty easy to replace if you lose one. Take a look at Paul Hostetter's...

    Re: Shade Tree Mando Repair

I actually had a piece of bicycle inner tube that I had cut and sealed the ends to raise up a crack in a Strad-O-Lin so I could glue a crack. I couldn't get it exact but it worked. I was really...

    Re: Ricky Skaggs on NPR

I suspect that Ricky is playing the Dave Harvey copy of the Monroe mandolin that was built a few years ago.

    Ricky Skaggs on NPR

Earlier this week I caught the end of what I assume was a bit of a preview of the Ken Burns documentary on country music that is set to air on September 15th. At the end they brought out everyone...

    Re: What's up with USPS?

Everything I've ordered has showed up early lately but I'd either call the shipper or take a trip down to the Post Office and let them look for it.

    Re: Regal Wendell Hall Guitar?

I haven't seen one of these either but the tuners take it way back I would think unless Regal was sweeping the floor for parts. If I bumped it that I'd buy it.

    Re: Rick Stone mandolins

Really only one mention but it was by a Cafe regular. It appears he has passed on but there are a few articles about him out on the web. This one stood out.

You might have hit it when his hosting company was doing some maintenance or it might simply have been a MOT (a Mystery Of Technology).

    Re: Soares'y Electric Tenor

That's kind of why you would have it custom made. Most good luthiers can make a pickguard no matter what the shape or dimension. If you can order it off the shelf it really isn't custom made.

When it comes to the lump scroll instruments the question "what were they thinking" apparently isn't part of the equation. Apparently they weren't.
