    Re: Finally Completed!

Sure, I don’t mind. My sad attempt to do inlay, it’s recon stone. I think one of the prettiest part of the guitar is the fretboard. The nut and saddle are black buffalo horn.
    My sister wants me to...

    Re: Finally Completed!

Oh yes! And I suppose not many 17 years olds get the privilege to build one either.

    Finally Completed!

I finally finished my 1st guitar, definitely a big learning process. I started it end of March, and finished Jan. 18th. It has a cedar top, sapele back and sides, spanish cedar neck, and maple...

Re: Now what do I do?

Here are some pictures of the neck.
I got pictures of pretty much every step, so I can go back later and see all the things I messed up on;)

Re: Now what do I do?

This is what the bracing looks like, I did more than what the plans said to.

I think lengthening the scale seems the most practical to me, mainly because I already carved the heel down close to...

Re: Now what do I do?

I did a dovetail, and in order to do as you suggested I would have a remove the truss rod.

Re: Now what do I do?

A picture of the guitar and my messy work area?
I marked on the top of the guitar where the backing plate is, and unfortunately to keep the scale at 25.5” the bridge will be on the very edge.
    The...

Re: Now what do I do?

I haven’t cut in the slots yet. I’m not sure how much the bridge can be moved back, I’ll have to check exactly where the backing plate is. I’m doing a 16” radius.
The guitar I’m building is a OM,...

    Now what do I do?

I am building my first instrument, a guitar. I have to say it hasn’t be going all that bad, sometimes I do wish I’d never started, and this time is no exception. So, I bought a neck that was a little...

    Re: Bending Sides

Thank you all, for all the great advice. I will be gone all of this week, so will tackle it again next week. I am going to get some mahogany to practice on, so I don’t mess up another side.
    I won’t...

    Bending Sides

I was going to attempt to bend the sides for the guitar I am building. I heated the pipe to 400 degrees, had the wood soaking for 4 hours. It bent to a certain amount, and then broke. I tried in...

    Re: A Titebond Glue Question

I’ll just assume it was made in 2018. If the guitar I’m building comes apart, then I’ll know it wasn’t.

    Re: A Titebond Glue Question

The code on the bottle I got is A809130010. Does this mean it was made in 2008?

    Re: Shawnee Creek Mandolin

Well, the Shawnee Creek is made in the US, the Eastmans aren’t. I have played a 515, they are nice, and you probably wouldn’t go wrong with one. Where do you live? Is this going to be your first...

    Re: Shawnee Creek Mandolin

I really like mine, it’s sturdy, and has a lot volume. There’s been times when I catch myself picking my other mandolin harder, but it doesn’t work like that
I went to the builder’s home, to try...

    Re: Oak? Or What?

It didn’t really look like oak bark to me, but the bark came off when I ran it through the drum sander, and I didn’t keep it.

    Re: Oak? Or What?

There was a little bark on it before I run it through the drum sander. Here another piece of wood for the same tree, I haven’t sanded it yet.

    Oak? Or What?

I had a friend that gave me this piece of wood, he told me it was oak. It’s has really nice figure to it, which makes me want to use it as a head plate.
Want do you all think? Oak?

I clamped the dobro to a bench, and did just what you said. There is a gap between the block and the back. Now what?
