    Re: The mandoline in France

I disagree! France has a lot to offer including some regional folk music in the north and Bretagne.

Bretagne: One of my favourite bands is Sonerien Du. There's also Tri-Yann, Dan Ar Braz, Les...

    Re: Eastman El Rey?

You won't need distortion, a bit of overdrive will create as dirty a sound and be a bit more versatile with 8 strings.

    It's fun.

But I prefer to use an 8 string in place of a 12-string guitar...

    Re: Whatcha up to?

Bought myself a foot switch for the POD 2.0. Wrong one as it turns out. I need an FBV not an FB4. (Good lord why did they switch from Arabic numerals to Roman ones?) Mince. As they politely say...

    Whatcha up to?

OK. No gigs for a while here in France.
    I'm off work now too.

Digging in the garden, minding the kids, getting my tear-y 7 year old through piano practice, maths, French, etc)

The double string course on an acoustic mandolin is (or perhaps 'was' now because the state of the art of lutherie is much improved in 125 years) necessary to create enough power to hear the mandolin...

I've had my EMC-5 for nearly a decade as well and I love it. I just wish Jeff was still doing emandos. I need a backup!

  8. Re: counter-intuitive use of octave pedal

    Hi Stew,
Given the color of this particular Mooer pedal, I'd say they copied the Boss circuit.
I would not say I was impressed by the tonal character of the octave output. So subtle is better.

  9. Re: Do You Play ALL of Your Mandolins Regularly?

No, I don't. Currently my F5s (a Vessel and a Mix) are languishing in their cases while I practice and gig with electric mandolins.

    I don't often play my Weber Alder #2 mandola, so I couldn't...
  10. counter-intuitive use of octave pedal

    Hello folks,

I bought a cheap Mooer octave pedal last summer because I needed something for when my guitarist and I covered Wish You Were Here. The low octave helped flesh things out while he...

Re: Neck bowing in an odd place

    Thanks all.

To be honest, I had not thought that a forward angled headstock would be a design feature. That staple has always driven me nuts. I don't think I have changed the strings more than 3...

Neck bowing in an odd place

    Hello all,

I thought I might ask for a little advice about a bowing neck.

I have a Fender FM-988, 8 string electric mandolin whose tone I love, but whose neck is annoying me.

    The extra long...

    Emulation v circuitry

    Howdy all,

Maybe I should have called this 'chips v tubes'.

In my search for affordable, light, good sounding emando amplification I have begun to focus on emulation.

  20. Re: What's the longest scale mandolin you have seen?

Re: Some Questions on New Purchase

I have a Hathway octave mandolin with a 19" scale. I tune it GDAE, an octave lower than a mando. D'Addario make an octave mandolin set with 12's as the top e. Works for me.

  24. Re: Info on J. Bovier mandolins, please

I have one of about 250 of Jeff's JBovier solid body electric mandolins. Met him at NAMM in 2006 or 2007 when these had first come out.

I love my EMC-5 and wish he was making more. Jeff was...
