Re: The virus, the economy, mandolins and you

I've made a couple of sales and a big trade that I wasn't expecting to make. And people are still buying strings. I don't expect to be making a lot of purchases, because I too will need to settle...

    Re: three players one instrument

Well, since the instrument in question isn't a mandolin, who cares?

This here is the photo you want.

Re: What's up with this A4?

Sure looks like a truss-rodded sunburst H2 mandola, which is approximately as rare as a hen's tooth. Yes, the pickguard support arm looks funky, but even that might be original, just bent.

Re: Viola to mandolin or mandola

I went from viola to mandolin during college. Already had a good understanding of treble clef from accordion lessons and choir, not to mention years of orchestra playing.

    (Everyone: It's a myth...
  5. Re: Anyone have information on this very unique bowlback?

Are we sure of that? Maybe it's the rarest of the rare — a tasteful, moderately restrained presentation model.
  6. Re: Anyone have information on this very unique bowlback?

August, how does one reach Lorenzo?
  7. Re: Anyone have information on this very unique bowlback?

Yes, label date is 1927 but the case looks more like 1950s/60s.

IIRC Vinaccia Bros. mandolins aren't *quite* as valuable as those produced by the previous generation of the Vinaccia family, but...

Re: Any help identifying old Mandolin?

Might be worth the $180 if it doesn't need any work. As for the driving distance, try to get the seller to meet you halfway.

Don't believe a thing the seller says about it ... the seller is...

    Re: Andy M Stewart Collection

It doesn't show up at the Oban site. Some Amazon sellers have it but they all seem to be in the USA.
  11. Re: BRIGHT STAR: musical by Steve Martin & Edie Brickell

Indeed! Photo evidence suggests that in Wayne's production the band was up on the stage playing from memory at least part of the time. I haven't had to do that in these here high school productions...

Re: Modern case for Gibson K2 mandocello?

Kind of hoping not to have to go the Cedar Creek route ... 'tis costly. Hoping there's a banjo or OM case already being made that would fit.

My Andersen cello lives in what I believe is a...

Modern case for Gibson K2 mandocello?

Does anyone know of a currently available hardshell case that fits a vintage Gibson A-style mandocello?

About to take possession of a 1913 K2 that doesn't have a case.

    I'm looking at this...

I certainly had my chance! I'm not sure if Emerald City Guitars still has it. I would have offered a trade, but my firstborn son said he wasn't interested in spending the rest of his life in a...

Re: Gibson EM-1235 with TWO MANDOLIN NECKS

I recall one of the mandolin/tenor doublenecks being for sale not that long ago, at less than a tenth of what's being asked for the 2-mandolin version.

Re: Gibson EM-1235 with TWO MANDOLIN NECKS

Perhaps you're wondering if this is the highest price anyone's ever seen for an electric mandolin.

    No, it is not.

I believe that distinction is still held by Nudie Cohn's Mosrite: ...

  21. Re: Wintergrass 2020 Vintage Instrument Workshop

    Thanks Mark!

I just got a very cool vintage Regal mandolin I think you'll like! I'll have it at the workshop, along with a Lyon & Healy A, a Gibson A4, possibly a Dobro mandolin, and a Martin A...

Gibson EM-1235 with TWO MANDOLIN NECKS

    Freaky.

i've seen these with a standard guitar neck and a mandolin neck, or a tenor guitar neck and a mandolin neck.

This appears to have an 8-string mandolin neck and a 4-string mandolin...

You are not allowed to sell instruments or promote your sales here in the forum. It is quite unnecessary to ask forum viewers to look at your ad; the ads get plenty of eyeballs already.

    Or a pet ferret.

Eastwood also has some standard mandolins, such as the Mandocaster and the Ricky. I don't know whether you prefer 4 strings or 8.
