I was playing pennywhistle with some friends. We did mostly "Celtish" drinking songs.
We needed something that could play chords to fill out the sound a little better.

(As a very poor bagpiper) I've always felt that the player had more to do with generating feelings of "hate" than the poor instrument.

I had the same problem. I went to my chiropractor. He really worked on my neck and shoulder. In addition, I have been massaging my shoulder, upper arm and forearm quite a bit. Problem solved....

I agree that the bathroom is a truly wonderful performance space, I play my mando there often...but you haven't lived until youv'e played bagpipes in a racquetball court. ASTOUNDING!
