    Re: Straps

Simon, I actually have two of those leashes. My "boys" haven't needed a leash for several months now. They always behave and do just what I tell them to, using simple commands, such as "rosebud"... :)

  3. Re: A Review of SchneiderMusik - Caution

Thane, as far as I understand, SchneiderMusik did wrong. They are responsible for a wrong delivery ("Falschlieferung"), which is a defect ("Sachmangel"). Hence, according to 434 Abs. 3 BGB,...

As far as I remember, the newer style Waverlies became available some time after 2005.

Re: What is this wood figuring called?

Fiddler, IMHO Haselfichte ("Fichte" is German for "spruce") does not refer to the pattern of the medullary rays, responsible for the silking, but rather to the wavy grain structure. Here's a view of...

    Re: '17 A-1 Bridge

Steve, is the neck straight on your mandolin? The neck/fingerboard on those mandolins can (IMHO should) be perfectly straight. If there is a bow in the neck, you would want to have the fingerboard...

Re: Lyon & Healy Style C

Please allow for reviving this thread. I just got my L&H Style C back from a friend who refretted it and levelled the finger board. Looks like the finger board is a replacement, as there is no sign...

Sticky: Re: Loar Picture of the Day

Charlie Derrington would call this "slip-matched", if I'm not mistaken. The matter actually appears somewhere earlier in this thread.

    Re: Speed

At the risk of running in open doors, to my experience, one key element is staying relaxed and working at a useful right hand technique. Won't hurt to study your favorite mandolin players' right...
  13. Re: Gibson Shipping Ledger - November 29, 1951

I still find it interesting that all of Monroe's fingerboards, including that "holy grail", look, indeed, quite like 1923 until the early 70s (if I remember correctly), when R. Wood installed his...

  17. Re: Electronic tuner: guide, or unquestionable authority?

Pitch, temperament (each an agreement) and tuning are technical matters rather than artistic. (Sweetened tunings on pianos are a whole different story.) At the same time, there is nothing wrong with...

Thanks for setting me straight on this. If I remember correctly, the claim came from the DR (string maker) website a few years ago. Today they are just mentioning a flexible quality of their...

Re: Lyon & Healy Style C

I never had a problem with an end pin and strap on my F5. And I'd never let the mandolin hang by the strap alone without at least one hand on.

    As to my L & H, it wasn't a "real" wedged-in end...

Thanks for the link, Nick. Those should be the right tuners for my L & H, no doubt - at least on the picture with the worm under. Bill's right, of course.

    Thanks a lot, Nick.
As you say, the posts are 3/16''. However 1/4'' would be too large, kinda modern. The holes in the hs are 7/32'' +, and the tuners of my '23 F4 and F5 are both 7/32''. Those...
