Ethan lives in Charlotte still. I think he could be out as a pro for sure!
Here is a YouTube from last month's SE Comando Gathering, Ethan Moore and I playing Bill Monroe's "Letter From My Darling." We have done this one better, but Ethan's solo is worth watching:

Clarinet player since the fifth grade. I tried playing it again a few years ago and it darn near killed me!
I realized last night that I MUST breathe when I sing, and I am almost always "in the flow" and relaxed when I sing. So breathing jsut might be the key to making our picking sing.
Your analogy to...
I haven't read the Forum that much in the past, but I just did a search on "breathing" and see that it has been discussed in this section. I apologize for bringing up something that is old hat--but I...
I have recently put my little book "The Tao of the Mandolin" back online in a form that should be more accessible than my previous attempts, as a blog on WordPress. I was reading back over what I...
That works too!
I do not have that one written out. Come to the Comando Gathering next May and I will show it to you! I joined that mandolin group yesterday. Will check in.
My little online book, The Tao of the Mandolin, is back up in a new home:

I wrote this in 1999 in weekly installments on Comando. It has up on a Ning site...
Red makes those one-piece non-adjustable maple bridges. He sells them through his website. His mandolin is Randy Wood #1--I think he also has #2, formerly owned by Bill Monroe.
You are officially invited! We may do one in the fall--I'll post on the cafe. Or email me.

A video of Red Henry picking his original mandolin tune, "Helton Creek," on the banks of Helton Creek, with Ethan Moore taking an improvised break on this crazy, cool tune.

Hey Clark, I live in Charlotte and teach at Winthrop--we ought to pick a few!

For the curious, Red is playing Randy Wood #1, David playing a Kimble A, and Ethan is playing a Bluett F-5.
Here's a link to a YouTube video of "Roanoke" being played by Red Henry, David O'Brien, Ethan Moore, and Ethan's friend Wayne at the 11th Annual SE Comando Gathering, Ashe County, NC, a couple of...
I've sighted only three Loars there over the years--and one of them I had to look at through the closed case! The trout are catch and release at that time of year, but I think they might bite on the...
The 11th Annual SE Comando Gathering will be held May 18-22 at Helton Creek Campground in Ashe County, North Carolina. Five days of camping, mandolin playing, fishing, and fun on the banks of a very...
I was impressed with your bass playing, Dave! Good to see you and pick with you again...
If they are still doing it the way they used to, that would be July 1996, eighth one made...
I know you said you want to have one built, but here is a Ludewig at Elderly for $3,000: http://elderly.com/vintage/items/90U-5554.htm

I second the recommendation for Dale Ludewig. I am very happy with Ludewig #5--amazing quality in its fit and finish, great sound all over the neck, from low to high, and so playable. His website...
Yes--don't know when they stopped...
Hmmm, does that make my 1988 Kentucky Dawg worth $6000? Didn't think so...
I didn't ever pull out the video camera, although I should have. Too much fun playing! We had the best weather ever, with only one rain delay, and not too long. Not too many there for the...
I didn't see this before--sorry! It's next week, May 12-16. Email me for directions and details: birdj1@peoplepc.com
