    Re: Ear Train

To follow up, I was trying to make the point that singing is actually pretty hard to learn. I didn't grow up in a musical family, so I didn't sing much and certainly not well growing up. But I am...

    Re: Ear Train

I recently started taking voice lessons, thinking "You know, I should be able to sing." My only goal was singing, but I am getting much more out of it. I am getting coaching on singing, but it's...

    Re: Jim Childress CD

Just noticed this again, and the recorded version of the show is about to drop off the list of available show. However, you can find the Jim Childress CD, along with two other ones here:...
  6. Re: Is there an easy program that will change pitch of a YouTube

Just learned you can pin the Transpose extension in the chrome browser, to avoid having to use the puzzle piece to show/enable it.
  7. Re: Is there an easy program that will change pitch of a YouTube

Using the Transpose extension, you don't "load" the song, really. I navigate the chrome browser to a youtube video, display the Transpose extension (see below), and then hover over it with the...

Re: Musty Smell in the case and mandolin.

It seems like Chlorine Dioxide works kind of the same way as Ozone does, but maybe a much cheaper approach over buying a generator.

When using the ozone generator, I was trying to concentrate...

Re: Old Time Jam- Richmond, Va. area

Let us know what you find. There used to be a Sunday Jam at the Cary Street Cafe, but I don't know if that is still going on. I am not local to Richmond.

Re: Software to change key of a YouTube song

Like Stringalong, I had trouble using the Transpose Chrome Browser Extension. I was able to install the extension easily enough, but it was not appearing to the right of address bar. I showed a...

Re: Musty Smell in the case and mandolin.

I have also had good luck with one of the home-gamer type ozone generators, both on a mandolin and case, and several other things. Took several treatments, but nothing else worked. It was maybe...

It's only been 11 days. Any chance to return the 514?

Isn't fun to have everyone suggest things that may not be feasible?

Re: What's your new fiddle tune?

Just for fun, you can also watch this one also with James Bryan and Carl Jones, but 18 years earlier!

It is a great tune that I like to play on...

Re: What's your new fiddle tune?

I have that CD, "Starry Crown," by Rhys Jones and Christina Wheeler, and it is excellent. There is some info on the tunes, but no long essays. For Gypsy Dance, it says:
    "Gypsy Dance GDAE George...

I agree with the people who suggest you play with other people more often. I think it is maybe the number one thing that will build your skills, probably because of the accountability that people...

  17. Re: good mando shops in Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia

Not sure how your route works out, but if you are coming east on I-64, there are two shops in Virginia to consider. They are both a mile or so from the highway.

  19. Re: How does it work when people are playing together?

I was playing Old Time with a bunch of people last weekend, in groups of 2 to 25, and was trying to pay attention to Sue's original question: How does it work? I noticed a couple of thin1gs:

Like we learned in the noodling thread, the answer varies. But for Old Time, and in my experience, it just kind of works out. Most versions of tune work well together, and slightly different...

I have no experience with the Morris or the APC, but Morris get spoken of well on the Mandolin Cafe.
