Glad to hear about a Loat. Now I can finish that song I had started about a pet goat. I needed another word that rhymed.
BTW, why is spell check indicating that Loat isn't a word?...
Thanks guys, I'm gonna do it. I've done various other repairs on instruments but haven't repl a nut yet. I have a LH nut on anothe mando that I think might fit. If it does I may be home free.
Jack
.....any suggestions or cautions? I need to replace a right hand nut with a left hand nut (I know, I know. I'm a left handed nut). What common tools are best to use to get the old nut off?

Is it a preemie? btw I have played mandolin since I got my first one in 1957. Altho I started playing bass in about 65 as that was what was needed in area bands at that time. I played mostly bass...
Nice!. Makes me wonder what mine is worth. Mine is a LH 1959
Fender 4 string. It is a sunburst all original. I'll post a pic of it sometime and see what y'all think.
Jack
It's probably all been said in one way or another, but I'll throw in my .02 anyway. I use the chop on the mando of course, but always have used the chop on the rhythm guitar as well. Especially in...
Anyone remember the old Warren Paint jingle that used to play on the Grand Ole Opry? Wasn't that the tune to "The Girl I left Behind Me"?
"I paint my house with Warren Paint
Put Warren on the...
As has been said on this thread several times.....This is one interesting thread. While I never played fiddle prior to playing the mandolin. I learned most of my tunes from a very good fiddle player....
Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Any suggestions on where to buy left-handed mandolin suppplies? ie: pick guards/bridges/pre-notched nuts/etc.
thanx.
Jack
Thanks Guys. I believe I'll do it. I know I have MAS and just have to have any good deal out there. Forgot to mention (thought prob not a deciding factor), the serial # is 990014 and apparently made...
I was just offered a Kentucky KM 140 sunburst with a cheap case for $50.00. It looks like it was never played and still has the plastic covering on the pick guard. It definitely needs new strings...
All great playing and great clips. Those young Skinner kids are fantastic. Notice the deadpan look on the little girl's face. Priceless.

Thanks guys. the one with Doc was the one. I sorta have it surrounded at least. So I'll continue to play it and call it the mandolin polka (I hope there isn't a real one).
Jack
....Once again,it's me. Am I the only one that doesn't know what they are doing. Anyway, here it is. I have played a polka thoughout the years that I thought was called The Guitar Polka. Not...
Thanks again thought I remembered that. Will print it out this time.
Jack
Thanks Tracy. that may be it but not how I remember it. Was much more up tempo and the part about the rainbow was the first part and didn't go to 4. And the second part modulated up a full step. I'll...
Does anyone have the notes to the walkdown Earl does on the second go-round of this song? I just can't seem to nail it down. Maybe it is in another thread on the forum but have been unable to locate...
Ok ,so I don't have much to go on but am searching for this tune (melody)It's isn't a fast tune but not a slow one either and is in 2/2 time. A great fiddle player that I used to work with about 40...
One other thing...it seems when I use anything but a nylon pick I break them easily. I must pick rather hard. The nylon last till I lose them.
Jack
jb....the tone is thinner a bit but I seem to be able to pick fast tunes better with a thin pick. I am now in the process of getting comfortable using a thicker pick (1mm)on slower tunes ( waltz's...
Retired now but spent many many yrs as a manager in Tech Services at the local school district.. Also many many yrs ago was a bass player with a traveling country band. Got a chance to play with a...
Once again,I apparently am the black sheep. I've played (played at) the mandolin for 40+ yrs and still prefer a thin Dunlop (55/75mm) nylon pick with a pointed end. However, recently I have been...
A fiddle player I worked with many yrs ago would make birds noises during the playing to Listen to the Mockingbird. Sounded real. sometimes I make bird noises on the fiddle but it is unintentional....
