    Re: Petersen Octave

That seems an exceptionally good deal. I bought a year old near mint Level 3 (cedar top and koa back and sides - unusual combination for Mr. Petersen) from Elderly nine years ago for $1000. It’s a...

Have you checked out Paddy Burgin of New Zealand at http://www.burginguitars.co.nz/ ? He offers citterns beginning at S2540 (US dollars). I briefly tried out one of his bouzoukis at Swannanoa years...

    Re: Hiscox Mandolin Case

I have a Hiscox mandolin case and like it very much, especially the amount of storage space. However, I do have a question (apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere).

Re: Who's your favourite CBOM player???

I usually associate Brian McNeill with the fiddle but he is also a superb CBOM player.

I would recommend The Musician"s Guide to Reading and Writing Music by Dave Stewart.
  6. Re: Mandolin case question -- is the sheet necessary?

I have what I think is a Travelite mandolin case and the cloth is attached to the case on one side. That would make me think its purpose is to protect the instrument in the case. I'm not sure why...

Re: Which CBOM would you keep if only one?

I also have a Petersen Level 3 OM with a cedar top and koa back and sides. Once I got my Trillium cittern I considered selling the Petersen. I just couldn't do it. I still have them both.

    Re: Famous Octave Mandolin players

Your're quite right as to the cittern, Dagger. From Pat Kilbride's website:

    Kilbride's cittern is a Stefan Sobell (www.sobellinstruments.com) spruce-and-rosewood five-course, tuned D A D A D...

Re: Calling all Petersen OM/zouk/cittern owners

I have a Petersen OM (as well as a Trillium) and had a local Chicago guitar install a strap button on the lower heel. This was about four years ago and there have been no problems.

What has become of Petersen Mandolins?

I had noticed that no new Petersen octaves or bouzoukis have come on the market for a while through its usual vendors (Elderly and Gryphon) and now the website is down.
