Hey thanks so much Dave for doing that! This will be a fun way to start the new year.
Rob
Dave, nice mandolin and nice playing. I'll pay you the highest compliment and ask if you have tab (for the guitar or mandolin part) for Parsnip Wine or if you were just riffing. Enjoy that Big Muddy!...
Saw this on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/195906536298[/QUOTE]
I have got to stay off of this forum ...
There is one available on the Pomeroy website as well that looks gorgeous.

I'm seeing free local pickup is available with shipping elsewhere being $77.72
Very nice piece and glad to see that the instruments that enrich our lives so much are helping others to rebuild their lives.
Rob
I think that sometimes availability plays a factor as well. Eastmans, Kentuckys, etc. are readily available to order (or even audition in stores) whereas commissioning a build thru a one-man shop...
What a beautiful instrument and it sounds so lovely. Enjoy.
Rob
Good for you, this is a great story! Rob
Ha, didn't even notice the hyphens turned into apostrophes! When I think SOL I always think instruments from the 40's and 50's, didn't realize that they morphed into instruments from Asia. Thanks. Rob
Did a search here but couldn't find anything but never seen a SOL sticker like this, think it's a real SOL?

No advice on which one to keep but the free lessons at mandolessons.com (Baron can be found on Youtube as well) is a great place to start.
Rob
If it has sentimental value then I think that I would keep it and hang it on the wall. The neck separation is what would scare me and is probably indicative of bigger problems. If it were me I would...

The mandolin actually looks to be in pretty decent shape
Rob
Looks and sounds lovely. What is the wood combo on this one? I check Don's site regularly, he does a good job of showing recently completed and currently available models. I kind of got turned on to...
I'll jump in to agree that Chuck Levin's is an excellent store. I grew up in that town and prior to moving cross country have been in there many, many times. They may not deal much in mandolins but...
I understand. My first mandolin was an Eastman 505, which is a slight upgrade from Eastman 305 which is one of the de facto recommendations for a great place for la beginner to start. I had intended...
No, my bad, I thought that you were looking for a flattop (Army/Navy, pancake, etc.). The KM-500 and 600 are carved tops with F holes, different animals from something like the flattop, oval hole...
I'd take a look at a Sawchyn Beavertail. Very well made mandolin at a very affordable price, I love mine.
Rob
I've been following this thread from the beginning and man did you ever give it the old college try. Sometimes things just don't fall into place and it's best just to trust your gut that it wasn't...
Right from Peter Sawchyn himself.
Rob
I would say that the most common neck sizes on modern mandolins is 1 1/8 and your Eastman is 1 3/32, so a little bit more narrow. Neck profile comes into play as well when determining what mandolin...
I'm a strap button guy too as I didn't want to tie anything behind the headstock, etc. Here is where mine is on the heel and of course below the tailpiece. I also included a stock photo that might be...
