  1. Re: If you could have any mandolin in the world….

I am really happy with my Nava archtop and for a different sound my Calace bowl back. There was a gorgeous part finished mandolin that I saw as I was passing a violin shop in Sorrento a few years...

I do like Savarez Argentine, a lot will depend on the sound you want out of your mandolin though.

Re: What plectra for the mandole?

I use a green Dunlop .88 Tortex -it was standard shape but I have sharpened it up. Next time I might try it in a Jazz III shape.
  9. Re: Total new guy intro and how to tune my new Eastwood WE tenor

You'll need all those in GDAE and CGDA, maybe some open tunings too.
  10. Re: Acoustic Tenor Guitar and Low Tension String Recommendations

I have one of those and like it, only 12 frets to the body which might be an issue, mine is in CGDA. No idea about light strings, I use the stock D'Addario set.

Re: getting into the Italian style

Without wishing to derail the thread, how much of this music was played on a (tenor) banjo? I bashed out the Wedding Tarantella on mine on Monday, since the TB was what I had with me.
  17. Re: Schumann: Träumerei (Reverie) for mandolin quartet

Interesting, I think I liked the last one, despite it seeming a bit hurried, so maybe Clara's 80 would be a happy compromise.

  23. Re: Tenor Banjo suggestion for beginner Mando player

I ended up putting heavy gauge strings,on .014", .024"W, .034"W, .046"W and that has cured the flop for me.

Since this is in the vintage section, I use an old 1923 Vega F style, which seem to go...

Either 1 or 3 first for me, although I covet a luito I currently play an Octave mandolin so pieces arranged for that would be of interest.
