    Re: 1901 Gibson?

Even the logo is wrong, I don't think Gibson did the work.

    Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest

Try to find the entire tailpiece if you can. There are very slight differences in the sizes over the years. They made them for decades. Harmony used them, Kay used them, and every body else including...

It's not that unusual for us to have this sort of thread. My favorites are the Frankenmando genre.

    Re: 1901 Gibson?

I'm kind of there with you as well. Even on their worst days I doubt Gibson would have done that inlay. It might be big and fat to cover the hole from a previous inlay, don't know but that one really...

    Re: 1901 Gibson?

The serial number is generally but not always written in pencil under the label but he might have to remove the label to get it. The FON is the easier way to go, assuming it's there.

    Re: 1901 Gibson?

I'm through 1929 in the Mandolin Archive and haven't seen a fleur-de-lis that is that rough on any A-4. I haven't been able to find another A yet with the same inlay but there are F models with the...

    Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest

I would put it in the 30's. Jim Garber may know the year of the catalog it came out of.

    Re: Another Stradolin Info Quest

You have a Strad-O-Lin Artist Deluxe model. This catalog page was uploaded by Jim Garber to the Vintage Ad Social Group. There are also pictures of similar models in the Strad-O-Lin Social Group....

Re: How do I seach for cafe member?

Assuming you know their username sign in to the Cafe, select Advanced Search in the upper right hand corner. Enter the name in the Username input. Unclick the "Exact Name" and search. You should get...
  13. Re: Kalamazoo Zipper Sound Hole--Mandolin Mystery

I've had two just like it, no mystery to me. The only thing consistent about Gibson has been inconsistency. The number inside is a Factory Order Number or FON. If you post that number somebody with...

Don't start a post, go to Photos and click the Add Photo's button. It will look just like what you saw when you added photos to this thread.

Too bad that Wurlitzer receipt isn't dated.

Re: Is this how it starts?

Be sure to post these pictures in the Strad-O-Lin social group and look for others with the same features. I've had a few similar but not with the covered tuners.

    Re: 1950's Stradolin?

I think it's older than the 50's, somebody stamped what was probably their driver's license number on the back. We all did silly things like that in the late 60's early 70's because police...

Re: New Vessel Loar A5 tribute

Charlie Derrington basically changed the design of the A5 to be an F5 without the scroll and points. I suspect I know why he did it and from a strictly manufacturing side of things it did make sense....

Re: New Vessel Loar A5 tribute

For any new Cafe members that are unfamiliar with the Ms. Griffith Loar, the only Loar signed Gibson A5 this thread is a good place to start.

There is at least one more thread about these tuners here someplace. I'll see if I can find it.
