    Re: Picks....a different angle.

I like the Wegan 1.4 a lot but oftentimes will use the old "heavy" guitar pick (1.0) turned on its side. In spite of what some say here occasionally, heavier isn't always 'better" for everyone.

Poll: Re: Poll - If there could only be one?

I had to vote Kimble based on what is hanging on the wall. But we all know there is only one, without which none of these others would even exist, right? As for Ellis leading, well they are great,...

    Re: Kimble two point reviews?

My Kimble mandolin is an F but my mandola is a 2 point. Both mighty fine instruments, inspiring every time and a pure joy to play.

    Re: Mandos on the wall

Yes it would depend on the climate.

My area is safely humidified, so all the instruments are on the wall. Besides the beautiful decor and the ease of access, I like the instruments to air out so...

Re: Anybody planting trees? Share your stories!

Most of my effort seems to go into cutting trees down actually. Mature eucalyptus which are invasive. What is interesting is how nature replants the space with different trees once the light is...

    Re: Should I be insulted?

Cat is giving high critique. Don't be insulted but take it with humility and play better.

    Re: Allesi tuners

I'm sure he's a great guy and probably makes a fine product. In his defense, he also has not repeatedly come on the Cafe slinging insults at every person who mentions that their requests to purchase...

    Re: Allesi tuners

I vote for Waverly. Performance of the Schaller Grand tunes was a huge disappointment on my mandolin, with problems of binding and of loose tuning buttons. Never seen an Allesi tuner but if you want...

...there is no place for guests to sit in the living room because all the chairs are occupied by mandolins.
  11. Re: How did you feel about your new build Mando?

I have tried twice. First time was a popular economical builder, and I sent it back because of intonation issues. Second time was with a well known builder, and its a nice mandolin but it came with a...

    Re: Replacing Gotoh Tuners

Can't help you visa vie the mounting holes or the witness lines, but funny how the grass is always greener. I was thinking of trying some Gotohs in place of the Grand Tunes that came on my mandolin....

    Re: Mandola lovers

Mandola has become my favorite instrument. I play guitar, mandolin, and mandola. Since I mostly play solo, I actually end up playing the mandola more than the mandolin. To me its the perfect range...

Hey thanks everyone so far. I will take these points up one by one. It definitely happens in open and fretted positions. I am the original owner and this is something that I noticed in the first...

What's gong on with my mandolin?

It's not a buzz, but kind of a distortion, almost like overdrive, but I'm not playing that hard. Is this a set up issue, something inherent in the instrument, or just me not having the right...

Yup, I've been doing it this way ever since I heard it described on one of those earlier threads a couple of years ago. So thanks for that.

    Re: F Styles uncomfortable?

When I first learned on a A, and tried the F, it was not comfortable; but then I spent more time with an F, made adjustments, and now like the F better.

What I have found is that the F wants to...
  19. Re: Supreme MAS: Which Would You Pick? Top Three?

    Supreme MAS?

In that case I would say you are less than a Texas day's drive to try playing them in person. Or you could go the other direction and try some in Surprise, AZ.

    Or if you want to...

    Re: Show your wear...

    Dem,

Is that your new, old Stiver? If so I guess that wear is inherited from another's playing habits? Sometimes its nice to embrace the evidence of that which has come before.
  21. Re: New here.....Suddenly really pumped about getting into the ma

Welcome to the cafe. I wouldn't be too afraid to let one of those extra guitars go toward the mandolin of your dreams. If you are anything like me, those guitars will see a lot less playing time once...

Re: Kimble vs Apitius- anyone played both?

I'd like to thank everyone for your replies. Seems more people prefer the Kimble. Interestingly, when I listen back to the recording, I hear the same thing.

I love everything about my Kimble...
