Why not have both?
It definitely does affect the sound of the instrument, even if the pickguard only barely covers part of an f-hole. Sound comes from the top of the instrument, and not just the f-holes. The only way...
Original Stradolin bridges are made of Brazilian rosewood, and usually sound pretty good, assuming they are well fitted to the top of the instrument. An inexpensive Indian rosewood adjustable bridge...
In 2002 I contacted Paul Duff directly by email and, after several pleasant conversations, had him build me an X-braced F5 mandolin, constructed of Adirondack spruce and eastern hard maple. It...
Appears to be genuine tortoise, probably made in Japan. I have several picks in this size and material, labeled Sekova, which I purchased in the 80s.
I have a Strad-o-lin that is my vacation mandolin. It sounds great, and already has various scratches and dings, and I do not worry if it acquires a couple more. In its gig bag, I can put it under...
Get people to pay you (a lot) to play. According to Chico Marx in Animal Crackers, "the more you pay, the better we play. You pay plenty, we play plenty good. You pay too much, we play too much...
Here's a link to a post from 2011 about an O'Dell mandolin. https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?80320-New-Mandolin-Keith-O-Dell-6
The pictures on Reverb look more like a faded Sheraton brown rather than Gibson's standard pumpkin finish. Definitely not a blond finish like an A-2-Z.
I have just four. But what I would really like to own is a talented luthier/repair person, to keep them all in top playing condition.
Fingerboard inlays and pickguard look like a Gretsch. Perhaps this was a prototype made for Bo Diddley.
Perhaps it has been torrefied (toasted).
With no disrespect to Bill Monroe, some would say that Earl Scruggs (and his 5-string toaster) made the definitive bluegrass toast.
The darkness setting on the toaster is all the way to the right. Like his music, Bill preferred toast well done. I wonder if Bill ever scraped the toast?;)
Judging by the ten (or nine) strings, and the guitar shape, I think it is a combination of a banjo and a tiple, aka a "bipple".;)
Based on the volute on the back of the neck, I am guessing that this instrument is a copy of a 70's Gibson F5.
I am not an expert on bowlbacks, but the top label translates to Calace brothers, Napoli. Calace was a well respected maker and made a variety of models at different price levels. They were high...
Mr. Williams' instruments are renowned for their "Woody" tone.;)
I use a Peak mandolin stand and like it very much. The stand has an adjustable support for the neck with a locking strap. I would be very nervous about putting a neck-heavy F-style mandolin in a...
Dampen the strings above the nut.
Is a Doko anything like a Dobro?
Lovely arrangement and playing. Tone is a little light on the bass response.
Peacocks are not known for their musical songs.
