Re: Lyon & Healy Mandola Model A

The one in the Classifieds is reasonably priced if you ask me.

Here's one being played in a bluegrass context.

Re: Lyon & Healy Mandola Model A

I've gotten a handful of L&H mandolins from eBay.

I do not recall ever seeing an L&H mandola on eBay, and I've been surfing eBay for mandolins pretty regularly for 20 years.

Re: Lyon & Healy Mandola Model A

    There are no asymmetrical ones.

I am pretty sure there are only two batches of them and the total number made is less than 100. I believe mine is the first one of the second batch.

    There's...

    Re: 1901 Gibson?

    Wacky for sure.

Do you have a photo of the back of the neck?

It looks like a 1918 fretboard (no dot at 3rd fret) but I think rcc56 is right about the neck (the shape of the headstock is...

    Re: 1901 Gibson?

Given the rosewood bridge with large thumbwheels, there's a chance it was restored by Gibson in the '50s or '60s and given the sunburst finish along with a new fleur-de-lis.

    Recognize this one?

It's about 15 years old and built in North Carolina, but that's all i know. It looks quite Roberto-Venn-ish to me; I'd bet the builder studied there, but that is just an educated guess. Anyone know...

P.S. Dick Levens made a stained glass one, so yes, I have seen a glass mando before.

Oh, I've sold several of those tailpieces over the years . I wouldn't write this instrument off as a basket case before inspecting it in person, though.

Re: Lyon & Healy Model A rebuild or for parts

Did you look at it in person? Can't tell from the photo whether it has a label or not. Also can't discern anything useful about the headstock break from the photo. Has it been repaired?

    The...

  20. Re: Fender FM60E truss rod: single action or double action?

I'll pass the advice along to the client. He is in South Africa, which may complicate matters a bit, but given that the FM60E is built more like a guitar, it shouldn't give a guitar tech too much...
  21. Re: Fender FM60E truss rod: single action or double action?

Well, one can raise or lower the individual saddles with a hex wrench, but this isn't your standard mandolin bridge.

  22. Fender FM60E truss rod: single action or double action?

Fender produced the Korean-made FM60E 5-string electric from 1999 to 2001. In the last year of production a truss rod was added.

Does anyone know if the truss rod is single action or double...
