Re: PLEASE! A few Mandola pieces

Thanks, glad you like it - I did it a good while ago, and of course only hear the warts.

I think you'll like the shift in tonality. Your Weber is sonically everything my Eastman would want to be,...

    Re: Music from Central France

Slight regional deviation ... listening to all this great stuff reminds me of when I first moved to Barcelona. I got turned on to an iconoclastic group called Kalakau, who, along with hurdy-gurdy...

Re: PLEASE! A few Mandola pieces

Although not in the Joe Walsh/Shlapanitsa/TM Sweeney league, I did a track a while ago in which I used the John Reischman trick of octave-stringing my dola, meaning it's still in CGDA, but I...

    Re: 5-string mandolin for beginner?

An NFI “+1” for Fanner - he’s making really interesting instruments, makes his own pickups, and answered my questions promptly and politely. He’s seems willing to accomodate the customer’s requests....

Re: A new Stromberg-Voisinet inspired mandolin

Agreed about the body shape, Graham. I really enjoyed the one I briefly had, and yours will definitely play and sound even better (to say nothing about having to mess with those finicky original...

    Re: DolinmanX

Right John! I was thinking Blue Bayou, but regardless Diptanshu, it fits the song really well, and your Gibson is magnificent. Here's to hoping you'll be able to keep the house.

    Re: Adiaha's Bluegrass Camp

Al Ras is small but really fun, I look forward to hanging out with you there one fine year!

There's also the Barcelona Bluegrass Camp in March, but I think this is less interesting for you.

    Re: Adiaha's Bluegrass Camp

Thanks for this thorough review, Olaf, I've been thinking about tapping into the German scene as well.
  11. Re: interesting short talk with L Dudenbostel from a News station

Mandolins & Beer did an excellent interview with Lynn in March 2021.

+1 Mark - I really dug that M&B podcast with Dan as well. What a unique approach to playing! Can't wait to listen to the record.

    Re: 4 string mandola

I got a branded version of that, a Flight Pathfinder. I also shimmed the neck and wound up moving the controls out of the way of my hand, but overall really pleased with it too. Enjoy it!

Re: Grover 409 vs Grover 309

I have both the 309N's (on an A5, worm over, normal tune) and just got the 409FVN's for an F-style (worm-under, normal tune), replacing the worm-under reverse-tune Schallers that were on it. I got...
  20. Re: Is there any reson to buy a waldzither if you have a mandola?

I had a pluckthun(?) waldzither modified for use as an octave mandolin. The neck was really big, but it had a great, resonant sound. PM me if you'd like to know more, Poul!

Re: Sellerís Remorse - 2008 custom Weber Fern

This is a total Disney ending, Kevin, congratulations! I'm wondering what you'll trade him for, but maybe I shouldn't be so nosy; in any case, wave as you pass over Spain! :mandosmiley:
