Re: What's your new fiddle tune?

tmsweeney, I thought Matt's analysis of Slipstream was absolutely brilliant. Would have liked more from him in the modern mandolin symposium.
  4. Re: Punch Brothers "Hell on Church Street"

They are playing it in 5/4 time. There's a live video where Thile counts it off in 5. Live video and discussion here....

Robert, beautiful job on While My Guitar Gently Weeps! Enjoyed the mandolin orchestra piece too.

Re: Curt Mangan Strings - Wonderful

I found out about Curt Mangan strings when I got my Girouard mandola and Max told me it had Curt Mangan strings on it, and that's what he put on all his mandolins when he sends them out. I tried some...

    Re: NMD Stanley A5 #68

    Thanks, pheffernan and Clement.

Dan, I didn't know about the humidity thing. I wanted to let it dry out gradually since it came from a humid place. The neck seems fine--I think my old injury has...

Dan, I think Chris really had it dialed in on #68. I can only work from memory, but I think...

    Re: NMD Stanley A5 #68

Thanks Frank and Russ. I'll have to make a video showing its sweet side. I think it was distorting the camera mic. Here's a couple photos. The color reminds me of a violin-type orange.

    NMD Stanley A5 #68

I actually received Stanley A5 #68 a couple weeks ago and have been getting to know it. The label is signed October 31, 2013, so it's 8 years old today. I guess Chris Stanley decided an...

    Re: Tuner Buttons Buzzing

I pulled the buzzing buttons off of the shaft and wrapped the shaft with teflon tape (plumbing tape) and forced the buttons back on. So far so good.

I really dislike StewMac tuners. Shoddy...
  21. Re: Nancy Blake Playing McMichen’s Reel + Jeff Davis on a Gibson

Norman and Nancy told some amazing and funny stories at Monroe Camp and enthusiastically answered lots of questions from all of us. Someone needs to record them for hours and write it all down. I'm...

Re: post a video of yourself

The Dead March is a tune Bill Monroe learned from his Uncle Pen and included on his "Uncle Pen" album. This is a collaboration between Bruce (bbcee) and me. Bruce has the mandolin melody (first and...

    Re: Old Grimes

Great playing, Dave, and a fine tune. Love to play this one. I've seen this attributed to Norman Blake and it appears on his "Just Gimme Something I'm Used To" album, but it may be a trad. Do Chris...

Re: Gibson finally fixed their fretboards

In the second photo, the frets extend the lines of the bottom of the 2 cutouts across the fretboard in a pleasing way. In the first photo, the frets seem randomly placed.
