    Re: Shipping expenses from Ireland?

You shouldn't have to pay VAT. I had an octave shipped from Ireland and the cost was reasonable.
  2. Re: Strings for Breedlove OF: Seeking reccomendations

I get fewer overtones with D'Addario nickel bronze strings. You probably are just going to have to experiment for a bit.

Re: Beginner: Kentucky KM-150 or Aria M-180?

I vote for the Kentucky. The KM-150 is generally considered an excellent instrument to start with. Arias can range from nice to thin and muted.

When I lived in Portland, I felt like I needed to scrape the moss off of me every few months.

That is one classy-looking mandolin. Could you maybe post a pic of the back? I'd love to see it.

    What Sue said. Also, congratulations!
  7. Re: Intermediate Mando - Good Mando to Step up to?

Here's what I'd get if I could go just a bit higher than your range. (It's always easier to spend other people's money.) Coming soon for $1775 at Elderly. You can always send it back if it doesn't...
  8. Re: Intermediate Mando - Good Mando to Step up to?

I suggest you buy the finest mandolin you can comfortably afford and play the snot out of it until you shuffle off this mortal coil. You don't need to be better than intermediate to have a fine...
  9. Re: Aaron Weinstein's New Apitius yorkville mandolin

Oh, my! That's all I got. Oh, and, as usual your playing is ... sadly there is no chef's kiss emoji available.
  10. Poll: Re: Vintage Flatiron Performer A (1993, Bozeman) vs Eastman MD305

The Eastman is a good mandolin, especially for the money. The Flatiron should be on a different level, however. I've played lots of Eastmans and owned a Flatiron Performer A. I wouldn't hesitate to...

Beautiful! I bet it knows all the songs you do, too.
  13. Re: Interested in picking up mandolin, advice on buying first.

I love flattops, but if you can't find one in your price range you might check out the Kentucky KM-270, 272 and 276. These are arched top oval hole mandolins that are a great value.

I suspect he had an ulterior motive. His collection is incomplete.

Re: Classifieds - Best Payment Options

The classifieds guidelines warn against using Friends and Family. The fee for regular PayPal would be just $39 on a $1,300 purchase, so I'd offer to pick it up if I wanted that mandolin.

    Re: Eastman MD 305 Upgrades?

Have you invested in a good setup? Does the current bridge fit well? Some people report that their mandolins sound better after fitting a Cumberland Acoustic bridge. Others report no changes. It's...
  17. Re: What is a 12-15 Year Old Eastman MD-915 Worth?

The vast majority of people on this board are kind and welcoming. Sometimes we all slip up, though. Maybe the prolonged deep freeze is getting to us all. I think there's more to be gained from...

    Re: '98 Weber Gallatin - what's original?

I think you'd be better off contacting Bruce and Mary Weber. Her email is on the Montana Lutherie website. I don't know if any of the employees of the current company were with it in 1998.
  20. Re: What is a 12-15 Year Old Eastman MD-915 Worth?

Using the general rule of thumb that a used instrument should be priced at about two-thirds the cost of a new model, $1,735. I think the assumption among many players is that the higher end Eastmans...

    Re: Tipping a Luthier

I apologize for getting off the topic of tipping luthiers, but you do realize your server has nothing to do with the quality of the food, right? Nor can they make the line cooks work faster. Also,...

  24. Re: Who Has The Largest Selection Of Mandolins On Hand... Anywher

Please just buy the Pava oval at The Mandolin Store so I can stop lusting after it. Thank you.
