    Re: Recording King Tenor

Yeah I always think you need something pretty decent to make CGDA not sound too plinky - GDAE is a very forgiving tuning. Just my opinion not necessarily a fact :)

    Re: Recording King Tenor

Other members have, but I personally haven't. I've heard decent reports :)

Ps musically, if we all arrived fully formed would it be as much fun? Learning & exploring - that's my idea of fun!

    Re: Today's Tenor Rumour Mill

So.... I have actually had a try of this guitar.
I'm really sorry I don't have decent pic (since this damn browser won't let me upload) or sounds, but as it's a prototype... seems unfair on the...
  4. Re: Interesting tenor/mandola builder

    Hm.
It's hard for me to get excited by buying unseen when, if I want a decent reasonable tenor, there's hobgoblin music up the road from me. Interesting though!!

    Re: Kala and Ibanez

ok just that i use GDAE on all my 23" tenors.
i'd go CGDA on short scale as Fox says.

    Re: Kala and Ibanez

Verne are you suggesting 23" scale isn't good for fifths??! When did that happen? :)
  7. Re: New Eastwood "Duo-Sonic" Style Tenor Guitar

I wish they did have a little competition though.
I picked up the WE 2p the other day... and nope... I just cannot bond with that wide neck. I get that it's cost effective for them to build this...

Re: Martin with extra sound hole!

Makes you realise how desperate some are to get a vintage Martin.
I don't even play mine - but at least it doesn't have "a custom soundhole" - well not since one of its cracks got repaired :))

Nice one Pete. Always good to do such a thing.
  10. Re: Gibson tg-50 archtop tenor guitar (1956)

lovely isn't it. i saw that on instagram yesterday.

they're thinner tops than the etg150 right? (for obvious reason, the etg is electric so has a thick old top!)

    Re: Glorious fun

during lockdown/s I found myself hitting a dead end for writing with my tenor guitars - so what did I do? that's right, i got back into recording electronic style music and even bought a nice hybrid...

Re: New here and new Tenor Guitar

oooh the slippery slope begins :) I have six tenor guitars.... it'll happen ha ha

Mine are all tuned in variants of GDAE (favs are GDAD, GDGD), some are pure electric, a couple are acoustic.

i use this set if that helps at all
Clifford Essex Ultraheavy(or another manufacturer obviously!)
  17. Re: Guitar Body Octave Mandolin for Irish?

maybe it's because the Pono is short scale as well - this will make it darker sounding than a gzouk.
  18. Re: Guitar Body Octave Mandolin for Irish?

exactly this - it's one of the holy grails amongst zouk players. He also owns a normal shaped Foley IIRC.
  19. Re: Guitar Body Octave Mandolin for Irish?

I've owned a Gzouk, It also sounds NOTHING like a guitar and everything like a bouzouki - but yea a different too.
    That was a forster.

Check out Aus/UK musician James Fagan and his Sobell.......

I have nothing more to share with you sorry - literally that's all I know.

    Today's Tenor Rumour Mill

I just spotted on a facebook thread on the TG page that Ashbury have just started prototyping an oval hole & f hole archtop model of tenor. There will be ones in better woods.. or something....

  23. Re: Tom Kimber on tenor guitar, mandolin and tenor banjo!

He's a nice lad is Tom (his Dad too) & we have a mate in common. Hung out with him & Pons Aelius guys year before last at the most recent Purbeck Valley Folk Fest. It's a Davidson thing :)
  24. Re: And now for something completely different

Definitely a him - not sure why there was a doubt! As on the other thread - I'd love a bubble when i get back to the stage - but neck or mid pickups are my thing, not bridge
  25. Re: Another unusual one on U.K. eBay

I know Alan. Interesting character! Lives not so far from me in the Glasto region

Kinda feel fan frets are better suited to a five string seems a bit overkill-y

I played a fan fret zouk of his...
