  1. Re: Ultimate Mixed Bag- 76 Mandolins in the Big Parade

Might be some hidden gems, but looks like two beat-up Gibsons and a bunch of stuff that wouldn't bring $50-100 IF PLAYABLE!

I could be wrong. Probably a lot of good repair parts, but at what a...
  2. Re: My new very thick unknown mandolin -what is it?

To repeat, this site is more fun with pictures.........

Yep, could be from Paracho, Mexico -- a town where they have been making guitars, etc. for generations. Most are cheap trinkets for the...
  3. Re: What is the most mandolins you've owned at one time?

    Most mandolins is 4

    Most banjos is 1

Guitars, whole 'nuther story -- before we bought our house 10 years ago I was at 130 or so, sold some down to 5 or 6 old favorites -- now, I'm back to 50 or...

Re: Always surprised how people send stuff

Peanuts provide good protection but cleanup can be a challenge. Also, they pick up a static charge that makes it harder.

When I worked at a music store and we got something in packed in peanuts,...

Re: Always surprised how people send stuff

I feel for ya, bro......that kinda stuff bugs me, too

Years ago, when stuff was bringing insane prices on eBay I sold a 1963 Fender Stratocaster case to a guy in Italy for something like $1400 or...

    Re: Woodstock

Last night I heard a very good Woodstock documentary on public radio hosted by Arlo Guthrie. Lots of good details concerning permits, renting the land, investors, banks, and, of course, the artists....

  10. Re: looking to move, but I have no clue where ?.

I guess I would prioritize my needs first. Get the operation over with, from a doctor/hospital you like. THEN, after you are healed, ask yourself:
    1. Do I need to be close to kids/grandkids? Or...

Good luck with your search, Kevin. Hopefully, it will work out.

I smiled at the above quote, thinking of the early days of the internet and how an ex-girlfriend from college, from 35 YEARS...

Re: what is the best selling mandolin

I second the $50 Rogue? Just guessing.......due to price, a lot are sold. Same with Squier stratocasters --- they are everywhere, again due to price. But, in both cases, best selling is not always...

    Re: Disappointment

It's a tough call, especially since you can't hear it until you spend the money -- cost of mandolin plus repairs. If it turns out great, it could be a bargain, both soundwise and...

    Re: Woodstock

A former boss had a similar story. They left Ohio for Woodstock, got halfway there, found out Dylan wasn't playing and turned around and came back home. For years he had his unused tickets framed...

Re: Cleaning up an old bowl back

When loosening or tightening mandolin strings, wear eye protection or keep your head turned. Sounds like overkill, but strings often break and have hooked themselves in people's eyes.........FWIW.

  19. Re: A likely contentious opinion on electric mandolins

Aside from the fingering, I also think they sound like a capoed electric guitar.....

But, they look a lot cooler than a capoed electric guitar....

And the fingering somewhat dictates the...

    Re: Starting Left-handed or right

Amazing condition for being 43 years old!

A little flashy for my tastes, but looks like quality work.

  25. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

If the tuners and pickups were replaced they could be used as a normal electric guitar. Pretty simple stuff.

Some active guitars use passive pickups and are only active in the sense that the eq...
