I feel a little dumb asking this, but when should I add a little slide when playing? I just don't have the feel for it yet. Any tips?
Hi folks. My name is Ryan and I've been lurking for quite a while. I have a question about practicing. So far I've just spent it learning melodies of tunes and just recently started with chords. Am I...
This is definately a view of a battleground from a Native Americans perspective. This brave was either watching a battle between the white man or a battle he was actually in. Sticks that made thunder...
This is to repair a slot I cut too deep. just 1 slot. It's not to enhance anything.
Well I took a steel ruler to the frets and they were true. The touch test didn't reveal anything. I showed it to my brother and he said there's nothing I can do, it just happens playing that high on...
I took off my bridge to file the saddle down. There is an indentation where the bridge was seated. This made putting it back in the right spot real easy. I'm wondering if this will cause any harm and...
Nope, the action was in the stratosphere though.
Fret 14. You might be onto something. I will pick up a steel ruler today.
I tried raising it but it won't get rid of it. I raised it so high that I had to raise the other end to keep going.
I just set up my mandolin and have buzzing on frets 9-13 of the G string. I'm thinking it's a problem with the frets but don't know how to handle it. Any ideas?
OK so I grew a pair and started thinking. I got a sterilized bone that you would give a dog. Made some dust and filled the slot. Then I got a bottle of Crazy Glue Craft, it has an awesome applicator....
I'm a huge Garcia fan. Some old fart said this to me once and I thought it was funny.
Well I'm fresh out of bones. Anything else I can use?
Well the first tunes I learned were some traditional Irish tunes. They are fun. I want to definately delve into some bluegrass. When I get good try my hand at some jazz.
So I cut my nut too deep. If you are new to mandolins you might be thinking "What the hell is this crazy guy talking about?" I was grinding the slot in my nut and I thought it was ok. Now after a...
Are you saying in 11 years I could be the best mandolin player in the us?
Found this.
Tuesday Night Bluegrass and Gospel Jam
Everyone is invited to play, sing or just listen to the Bluegrass and Gospel Jam every Tuesday night. Join the guitars, banjos, mandolins,...
I'm looking for people that get together to play so that I might learn a thing or two. I'm in Central PA about an hour from State College.
I have been practicing steadily for a couple months now, and took a few lessons. My budget won't allow for regular lessons, so I was wondering if board members could suggest ways I could improve my...
I use a Dunlop Big Stubby. Nice speed, and tremelo's are pretty easy. I like the pointy tip, feels more accurate. Also the Jaws of Life couldn't pry it out of your fingers.
Thanks Rob for the e-Book. I adjusted the nut on my mando and it is playing like a new instrument. The instruction are thorough and precise. You saved me a big chunk of change allowing me to do it...
So I was sent the Mandolin Setup e-Book by member Ron Meldrum. I followed it to a T in regards to setting up the nut. My mando is sooo much easier to play now. I don't have to worry about pressing...
I've already set the bridge and the action is all the way down. I think the nut is too high. I'm gonna attach a pic. I can barely play the first fret. The frets are nice and even. It is a good...
I'm in Lock Haven, PA. I'm gonna ask a local bluegrass artist if he knows anyone and I sent Rob an email.
