    Re: What tune is this?

Old Ebenezer Scrooge is one of the best tunes Monroe wrote.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5vvPJDgvco&t The first time through each part is fairly true to the way it was written.

Re: My Last Days on Earth

It does my heart good to hear young folks picking Monroe tunes. Great job, Gunnar!
  4. Re: Live From Here Joni Mitchell musicians' birthdays

The show video is no longer available, but they were nice enough to put the Joni Mitchell birthday segment on youtube. At least skip to "A Case of You" as the last song. Knocks me out. Powerful.

I think I got the tracks with the oval. Telling the difference between Crusher and the Fern might as well have been a coin flip.

  9. Re: Live From Here - Is There a Better Music Show ANYWHERE?

Incredible show tonight!! The Joni Mitchell musicians' birthdays segment blew me away--Aoife especially, but the whole band just nailed everything about those songs.
  10. Live From Here Joni Mitchell musicians' birthdays

The whole musicians' birthday segment featured Joni Mitchell songs. Aoife O'Donovan really nailed a couple songs. Skip to the middle of the video if you watch nothing else. Unbelievable renditions....

Re: Whats your thought on these?

I have one of Max and Lauri's bog cedar topped mandolas. It's an amazing instrument. Great woods, craftsmanship, finish, tone, with a perfect neck profile that I worked with Max on. Highly...

Went there before I went to Monroe Camp. Like a kid in a candy store. Amazing place. I did buy a T shirt.

Which Duff F5? They have several there. Don't see a Duff A5 on their site. Is it a new or used one?
  18. Re: Disappointed with the Nashville music scene

Had you been there Sept 17th, you could have heard the Monroe Camp instructors at The Station Inn with special guest Ricky Skaggs sitting in on one set. That was about as good as it gets for...

I had an Engelmann Heiden that had that figure in spades. Michael said it was perfectly quartered. Figured top, back, and sides.

    Re: Anyone taking online lessons?

If you're a beginner, I'd recommend a Skype lesson. I see beginners on ArtistWorks who have pick direction problems and practice that way for a couple weeks (or more if Mike's on tour) while waiting...

Re: In praise of mandolin builder Matt Ruhland

The Ruhland neck is custom. Matt used a mandolin I used to own that now lives in Portland as a template and then modified the neck it to be a little less deep. The Ruhland neck turned out slightly...
