My 2022 KM-1000B. The sunburst is a bit off-center, but that's OK.

I started with this 1920 Martin style A, that actually sat around mostly unplayed for many years. Still have it. I'm trying to get my wife interested in it. It's short scale, so it's ideal for her...
You have graduated with honors, sir. I played #560-something recently. If I had the $$$$...
I had this LM-590 for a while when I was first learning. It's a very nice beginner's mandolin. Easy to play and sounded pretty good. But, I eventually sold it on and got a Kentucky KM-1000B.

My 1920 Martin Style A is 3" deep at its widest and 8 3/4" wide at the top bend.212831
I own two pre-WWII Gibson instruments.
With the way the current Gibson company is being run, I wouldn't bother looking at any new Gibson products.
There are plenty of other companies and small...
Here's a guide that noted vintage instrument specialist Mark Stutman of Folkway Music in Guelph, Ontario posted on the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum. It applies equally well to mandolins.

I had a Gibson A0 that came with a case with this sticker on it. I always wondered about what they played, and where. 130 members - their sound must have been huge.

And the mandolin that...
I went from the ubiquitous Fender medium picks to these Dandrea Radex 1.25mm. The larger size makes them much easier for my mildly arthritic fingers to hold onto them. I use them on mandolin and...
I had this 590MS for a while. I imagine your variant is very similar.
It was a great starter mandolin, but I sold it on in order to get a Kentucky KM-1000B.

I have one on my Kentucky KM-1000. It helps when I'm out busking.
But, I don't use one on my 1924 Gibson A2Z. That fella only goes to indoor jams.
There was one at Gryphon not too long ago that really knocked me out. I had no need for it, so somebody else got it. But they are worth tracking down.
I was not familiar with this Virginia boy.
Here he is in 1979 with Wayne Henderson on guitar.
He's got the licks!

My 1924 blacktop snakehead A2Z (that's what the label says) is "The One" for me. I have a Kentucky KM-1000B I use to play with my busking group, but this A is the one I play at home and at sheltered...
Brothers Music in Wind Gap has a great reputation.
You could put a link to a Dropbox or Google Drive share and put more photos there.
For some reason, a mandolin player in our jam hates "Red Haired Boy", so we never play it. But, my busking group does play it as a medly with "Salt Creek". And we do "Wagon Wheel", as well.

My wife's tenor is in "Chicago tuning", like a baritone uke DGBE. There are no rules. I saw a Dixieland plectrum banjoist playing in that tuning last week.
Here's my wife's 1931 Gibson TG-0.

The Otter Opry of Monterey, CA and its fans host the following jams:
Dennis the Menace Park - every Wednesday from 11:00AM - 12:30PM (weather permitting)
Monterey United Methodist Church -...
She was going to Stan Jay's Mandolin Brothers shop.
I'll miss his wit and knowledge, both online and in person. He pretty much invented current restoration practices.
There are two mandolins here because of Gryphon, and several more instruments...
Saw them in Monterey last night. Who cares what you call it? Mr. Sun is 4 brilliant musicians at the top of their game channeling Duke Ellington in an original way. Just dig it! Not everything has to...
This 1924 A2Z is all I play now except when I busk with my band - then I use my Kentucky KM-1000B.

My 1920 Martin A got refurbed by Dave Musselwhite maybe 25 years ago and he put Elites on it. They were good tuners.
According to the info on this page, yours is probably a 1934 since the serial number is higher than the last one of 1933 and doesn't have a letter suffix like those from 1935-1939. But, Gibson's...
