Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

I think F2s and F4s are beautiful looking instruments. I made one once. It sounded fabulous. I plan to make another one one day. It is so much easier to make the fingerboard sit on the soundboard...

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

Spot on Jamie Stanek. There is so much talk of wanting instruments with good tone on this forum. Having just got a Breedlove FF I support what you saying entirely. It might not have the colourful...

If it is installed it might be under the bridge or inside the top. It might be a K and K too. Ask him what brand of pickup.

    Re: Breedlove AM OF

Send some photos on the cafe when you have checked it out. If it has not been played for years it is likely to be in minty condition. People seem pretty happy with their American-made OFs.

    Re: Breedlove FF Experiences?

Thanks ABMando. It was a chance photo I took while visiting a cortijo in a place called Lanjarón the day I got the FF. It was a pretty special place to visit. It reminds me of the drier parts of...

    Re: Breedlove FF Experiences?

Great stuff. What serial number is or was perhaps yours? It must be a close relative. Mine was made in 2008 and is serial number #11140.

    Re: Breedlove AM OF

I notice that your new Weber Gallatin is not far off your a Breedlove FF mandolin in terms of looks. In some ways you have gone back to a semi-traditional looking mandolin like the Breedlove FF...
  12. Re: NMD - impulse purchase, and an F style to boot

Eric. I really like the modern F scroll on it. It sets the mandolin off nicely. I will listen to your video tomorrow.

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

Artichokes are good for the liver - don't knock them. Same way an F5 is good for Bluegrass music.

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

F5Loar the F5 is part of the mystique and legacy of bluegrass. I agree with you about its popularity among professional bluegrass players. Steve Gilchrist saw an opportunity to build F5s for this...

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

For that reason some of the best exponents of jazz, swing, and dawg music play F styles because of the richness of chord tones they get from them. For that reason F styles are preferred in those...

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

Bob It might have something to do with the bluegrass chop chord which goes hand in hand with an F5;mandolin. I would say flat tops would be more popular in the USA if there wasn't this single...

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

A good quality of flat-top with a built in arch with the braces can project really well in a jam. They are also quicker and easier to make and can look as beautiful as arch-tops.

    See this for...

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

Well flattops are the rage for Celtic Mandolin in Europe. It seems as if flattops are not regarded as a serious mandolin in the USA. Still I prefer carved tops because of the type of music. I play....

Well a Breedlove FF could have done the job in terms of appearance. It is amazing how conservative people can be to other mandolin designs. For me the FF is a good looker. I still like the look of...
