Grew up outside of Bloomington, IN so a big fan of all things Mellencamp (and related). I loved the song, You Make Me Want To Wear Dresses.

I had a Stiver built a number of years ago with a block inlay. I really liked the result.

You might consider reaching out to Acoustic Music Works for an opinion. I think they have dealt with several Stiver mandolins over the years. I purchased mine from Elderly Instruments who coordinated...
You may look at Loopy Pro: HD
It's an App on the App Store but here's a link to their website if you want to check it out.

I had this same question a number of years ago and did some investigation. His transcriptions have been such a gift to the mandolin community. I think this is his current site: ...
I had wanted something like this, too. The Hercules Ukulele Clamp (Model USP20CB) works great. It's very sturdy to the desk and on the mandolin. ...
Seeing the old posts revived always makes me smile. There's so much history on the Cafe, both in terms of the topics discussed and the people posting whose name we don't see anymore.
I really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! I really, really enjoyed that. Great job and thanks for sharing it.
To access the tab, open the video in YouTube (not the embedded version on the Cafe). The tab is linked in the video description when you open it in YouTube.

What's the general consensus on the chords to You Don't Have To Move That Mountain by Nickel Creek? The song goes by Great High Mountain when Larry Sparks does it.

I'll add that you can have instruments shipped to a UPS Store for $5. Among the benefits are that it won't be sitting outside your house all day, as soon as it's delivered you can leave work to go...
I couldn't own that mandolin because it would take away one of my favorite excuses. If I played that mandolin I would no doubt still sound terrible and then I could only blame my poor skills. Now...
I think Tim O'Brien does a great job of playing the mandolin melodically, without picking the individual notes or the melody. It's something I need to spend the time to study.
Happy Birthday, Scott. Thank you for keeping house in this corner of the internet.

That's an interesting Fleur de Lis on the headstock. Was that the design used on all F12s? Was it only on F12s?
Thanks for the education.

For someone who specifically does mandolins, you could try Bruce Taggart in Nashville, IN.
Here's his phone number

Thanks to SternArt for providing the name of the event.
The Cafe has a page devoted to the panel discussion
Not to be too sentimental but in our disposable world, it's great to have something like an instrument that will be passed to future generations.
Every time I interact with Dave Harvey - either in person at an event like IBMA or via something like the Cafe - the interaction leaves me wanting to buy a Gibson. No brand has a better ambassador....
