Re: Speed of bluegrass... is it just me?

Thats a problem with Michael Cleveland who is a fine fellow, and a great fiddler!
He has a tendency to show up at amateur jams when he is not on the road.
    Everyone both advanced and Newby

    Re: Tortoise shell pick alternative

I've liked the Casin picks D'Addario

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

If Bill Monroe would have seen a A5 in a barbershop window in 1947
This would be a very different conversation!

    Re: Chinese made mandolins (Northfield?)

I said in my post, I might be narrow minded.
Eastman is a good mando for the money
But from everything I've heard the Northfield

    Like the Rolling Stones song

I have a mando and I want it painted black
No sunburst anymore, I want it to turn black
    Cheers,
    Rick

    Chinese made mandolins (Northfield?)

I have two mandolins, one Eastman which is nice for for the price, and one mid level American luthier built, Which is a better mando as you would expect
I have never played a Northfield, but...

    String change frequency

I realize there a wide range
Some change strings every 3 weeks,
    Others every 6 months.
I know how often most guitar players (often) and banjo players (less often)
    But mandolin players???

    Re: Favorite A style mandolin?

If Bill Monroe had never found a mandolin for sale in a Tampa barber shop in 1942, y'all would be playing A5's

Trouble hearing "in tune" unison strings

I seem to have an acceptable ear for music and have no problem tuning a guitar or a banjo. For some reason instrument with unison strings like a mandolin gives me. challenge because they never sound...
