A friend of mine has a very early Big Mon that has almost no finish left and a large bass side top crack thru the f hole. It is one of the best sounding mandolins I've ever come across.
It was a much louder instrument with a neck I liked a bit better. I'm still very tempted to come up with some way to go back to buy it.
There was a Gibson there that was a little better (louder) but it was near $3k more!
Back in early October I had some mandolin music work on the horizon and I wanted to upgrade my instrument. I had been playing a Northfield base model F. I went to the Mandolin Store in Nashville...
I recognize the Neumann 84 but I don't recognize the other mic on the mandolin. Anyone know what it is?
No idea. Seems like the center of it was removed and there's a little piece of brown paper in the middle. I'm thinking about getting a pearl and abalone truss rod cover made. Maybe something that...
Thank you! No binding on the back so it must be an A.
Howdy yall! I feel lucky to be the new owner of this mandolin. I know the title of the youtube is cheeky

It is serial 85442 and FON is 9503....
I'm starting to try to play in the earliest Bill Monroe style. I love his playing from the 1937 recordings and I think his playing is really unique in this time period. I also think he changed his...
I learned up Ricky Skaggs solo from " Head Over Heels" from the Boone Creek days. Lots of fun downstrokes in that one!

Thanks, I believe it's a Fischer. The only mandolin he made.
Thank you! That's right tune title. I fixed the video title but not the thread name.
Have a great day yall. Here is a jig called "Tripping up the Stairs" with Jackson Grimm on mandolin.

Thanks y’all! I’m looking for some more dawg tunes that might be a good fit for octave mandolin. Any suggestions?
Happy Labor Day y’all!
I purchased an Eastman Octave mandolin about a week ago and it’s just been a blast to play. Here’s one of my favorite David Grisman tunes on it. Do y’all have a favorite...
Hey yall! This Tim O'Brien tune is one of my favorites. In the process of working on this one, I notated out the standard dots for it. On "Hard Year Blues" Tim plays the B and C parts up an octave...
I like the idea for a photoshop!
Any ideas of a classic album you'd like to see chopped up into a specific person's solos?
anybody have requests for the next one?
Thanks John! I'm having fun chopping up these albums.
