    Re: Trading

Sell, buy, trade, there is never a "correct" value, only what you can agree on. That being said, todays new prices or used(if enough data exists) can of course be and indication of value.

Re: Fret popping up on my new mandolin

If it doesn't move and a fretrocker doesn't rock on it, just leave it.

Opinions on a 1970s Kasuga Mandolin

Hello, I'm eying this 70s Kasuga mandolin. Is it worth buying/playing?

Seller says there is a plastic saddle on the bridge but that should be easily changed.

Re: tuners for vintage bowlback mandolin

    Remove the plate and look.
Even a 120 years ago, luthiers didn't make the tuners themselves, they bought them from others, so the tuners could have been used on other instruments as well. Maybe...
  9. Tip for adjusting small or tight tuners

A lot of times it's not possible or feasible to totally loosen all tuning screws on old instruments and there is also little space between the screws.

So I took a mini screwdriver for standard...

Re: Sticky stuff in octave mandolin case

If you use Naphta on the plush it will/can dissolve the glue for the plush, so it will loosen and maybe the glue will penetrate the cloth even more. So be very careful.
    I Have used Naphta for...

  12. Re: source for small, mando-sized strap button

I bought these here for my older mandolins. Polished them and installed with patinised brass screws with a slotted head. Looks original ;-)

They are 13 mm widest and 8 mm on the narrow part.

    Re: String winder

This is the most expensive, most beautiful and best working winder. Made in hardwood with rollerbearings(yes!)

I enjoy it everytime, instead of those dreadful cheap plastic winders ;-)

  17. Re: Favorite clip-on microphone for Irish bouzoukis

On my guitar I use an Irig Acoustic Stage. It has a soundhole mike and a preamplifier with some modding but best of all, 10 automatic antifeedback filters.

It can also be calibrated to your...
  18. Re: How did the "curl" on the mandolin body evolve?

So again old Gibsons bad taste in design is at fault, just like the yellowed "white" plastic they chose to their Les Paul guitars in the 50'es, that has been used on most LP guitars since. :))

  19. How did the "curl" on the mandolin body evolve?

Why do so many mandolins have that silly looking and useless curl on the body?

I find it ugly and it must make a mandolin a lot more expensive, to make it.

It would be much more practical, to...

    Re: project mandolin on Ebay

Never buy other peoples failed projects. It's 5 times as difficult to remedy other peoples failures than to repair an honest instrument with damage or wear.

There is a reason for their selling.

    Re: Zouk + Capo

A special slideguitar capo grabs the string both top and bottom but I don't know if there is room for it on yours. Why not have the neck fixed? It will also buzz when playing at the 5. bar!

  25. Re: Are there any good vintage noname mandolins ?

Oh, I just checked the specs on my new 160$ Levin Model 54:
    Solid spruce deck
    Solid birch side and bottom
    Maple neck
    Walnut fretboard(maybe)
