    Re: The Entertainer

David Benedict posted a really nice version along with Mandolin Mondays #15. His arrangement is in D.

There is also an arrangement here, which includes links to the tab/notation.
  2. Re: Artist/Album Recommendations like Punch Brothers & Sierra Hul

Don Stiernberg has a whole fleet of outstanding discs available. They lean more towards jazz/swing, but very accessible and exquisitely done. My favorite artist, bar none.

    Re: The Beatles: Yesterday

There is a link in the video to download the arrangement. They're $6 or $8, but well worth it. I have been making semi-regular contributions to Colin's fund! Which I just did again, as a matter of...
  5. Re: Paul McCartney reunited with long-lost Hofner bass guitar

Almost as good a story as Peter Frampton's Les Paul. Fantastic!

    Re: mandolin tattoos

This pic was sent to me by a friend who spotted it on a boardwalk somewhere in Florida. I'm not a tattoo fan, but this is pretty nice.

    Re: Tom Waits' Old Shoes

Ultimate-Guitar.com has guitar chords, strum pattern, and lyrics. It's not arranged specifically for mandolin, but it's only three chords - G, C and D. There are a gazillion sources to find voicings...

    Re: Crossrock Mandolin Cases

In my case (no pun intended) the foam on the fingerboard is right above the neck support, so while the neck gets squeezed a little, it doesn't get bent. The foam above the strings is pretty well...

    Re: Crossrock Mandolin Cases

I now have the "new and improved" version, and had the same concerns re: the padding above the fingerboard and tailpiece. That only lasted a short while, the padding settled in, and now the case...

Just listed while cooking dinner. Fantastic stuff, as always. Thanks, Don!
  13. Re: David Grisman’s Gibson F-5 “Fern” Mandolin

Amen - and watching Grisman always makes me feel a little better about the fact my fingers fly a little higher off the fingerboard than they should. It sure doesn't hamper him any!

    Re: What are these chords

Think three-note chords. Chop chords are overrated. Only my opinion, obviously.

    Re: Grover Acousticraft Bridge

That looks pretty meaty and therefor heavy to me. I would lean towards Cumberland Acoustic or maybe a Brekke bridge? If it's a Weber, possibly it's got a Brekke bridge now. Weight matters. On my own...

Re: Help identifying my old Gibson a type

According to Spann's, it shipped 1905.
    First S/N in 1905: 3400
    First S/N in 1906: 5100

If you can get us the FON stamped on the end block of the neck, we can give you the build date.

    I have...

    Re: My first oval hole

I have been playing the home-built mandolin in my avatar for 15 years, and that is the 'norm' for me. Bought a 1919 F4 last July, and wow, what a difference that oval hole makes! It took me awhile to...

    Re: Case for Gibson F-4

I tuck the strap alongside the neck so it's not in the way, but it closes just fine. My only beef is that the accessory compartment is tiny - not even room for a regular Altoids tin in there. First...

    Re: Case for Gibson F-4

I have a 1919 F4, and it fits great in the new Crossrock fiberglass case. Their initial case fit both F and A models, with use of included padding. This summer they released a new version designed...

Re: nice looking Gibson F-4 1917

I picked up a 1919 F4 towards the end of July - it's a wonderful mandolin. M19 described the sound as deep, rich and round - and that is perfect description. Very sweet, fat sound compared to my...
