    Re: Favourite effects for electrics.

I posted about this before I think... I have a Mooer octave pedal that does various combinations of one or two octaves away from the source note. I use mine in a bit of a counter-intuitive way. ...

    Re: Feels like new

I think Etienne put D'addarios on it.
He used loop ends and then re-used the balls from the pervious set. I told him it would have been OK to buy electric guitar strings, ;)

    There have been a...

    Feels like new

Got this little guy back from Etienne Van Hove yesterday. He did a full set up. Hard to put down now.

    Re: Eastman El Rey?

Yes, and lengthen the scale to 15" and it would be, for me, pointless to try to resist buying one.

I have realised that almost all my effects are actually boost pedals in one way or another...

  6. The Guitarist ep2 is really about mandolins

If you know about John Jorgenson, this will not surprise you.

But this is a really wonderful 15 minute video that includes discussion about Jethro Burns from Sam Bush and Ricky Skaggs.

    Re: Whatcha up to?

That sucks. But thanks for staying on the job. (I offer my thanks to the French guys who do the same!)

I'm on furlough until 21 April when my resignation is effective. Then I'm unemployed. And...

    Re: Whatcha up to?

The problem I am having now is that the mic goes to channels 1 and 2 and the instrument input goes to channels 3 and 4, or vice versa. It seems to me that the browser is only picking up channels 1...

    Re: Whatcha up to?

I pulled my Line 6 Tone Port UX1 outta moth balls yesterday. Spent 3 hours updating drivers and trouble shooting the thing. Gave up in frustration. I just could not get any signal out of the...

    Re: Eastman El Rey?

    Hi Doc,
The El Rey has an electromagnetic pickup in it, so it is meant to be played through a 'guitar' amplifier, rather than directly through a PA or 'acoustic' amplifier. People hereabouts have...

    Re: Whatcha up to?

    That's gorgeous.
What's the scale length, and what gauges are you using to string it?

(Been jonesing a Yanuziello electric mandola since I found out about his work)

    Re: The mandoline in France

I disagree! France has a lot to offer including some regional folk music in the north and Bretagne.

Bretagne: One of my favourite bands is Sonerien Du. There's also Tri-Yann, Dan Ar Braz, Les...

    Re: Eastman El Rey?

You won't need distortion, a bit of overdrive will create as dirty a sound and be a bit more versatile with 8 strings.

    It's fun.

But I prefer to use an 8 string in place of a 12-string guitar...

    Re: Whatcha up to?

    Whatcha up to?

OK. No gigs for a while here in France.
    I'm off work now too.

The double string course on an acoustic mandolin is (or perhaps 'was' now because the state of the art of lutherie is much improved in 125 years) necessary to create enough power to hear the mandolin...

  20. Re: counter-intuitive use of octave pedal

    Hi Stew,
Given the color of this particular Mooer pedal, I'd say they copied the Boss circuit.
I would not say I was impressed by the tonal character of the octave output. So subtle is better.

  21. Re: Do You Play ALL of Your Mandolins Regularly?

No, I don't. Currently my F5s (a Vessel and a Mix) are languishing in their cases while I practice and gig with electric mandolins.

    I don't often play my Weber Alder #2 mandola, so I couldn't...
  22. counter-intuitive use of octave pedal
