    Set your metronome to a slowish tempo and play a quarter note triplet and two quarter notes until it sounds right. Then change tempo and do it again. Etc...

    I’ve been putting on strings using the hitch for many years, but recently started using the wrap-then-poke method and think it’s a better way.

    Put on some new strings today, and only got stuck...

    The standard for distressed mandolins would have to be Monroe’s Loar before it was smashed, right? So that instrument was 40 years old when he bought it and he went on to play it probably 300+ nights...

    D’Addario J74 strings are sort of standard. You might want to go a little lighter to J73s to start.

    For your metronome, there are many free apps that work great.
