Re: Ow. (Another thread on strings.)

I bought a BR-40T a while back. J66's stung me too, within minutes of opening. It's like deja vu all over again. I went to juststrings.com on the recommendation of others here and put together the...

Beautiful. Sounds great. Any closeups of the rosette? It sparkles and catches my eye in your vid but there's not an good shot of it.

Re: Eastwood Electric Tenor 2 P string gauges

Great info guys. What are the scale lengths that each of your tenors run? I've recently posted some questions in this regard. I am currently running .034w .024w .012p .009p in CGDa tuning on a...

    Re: Jazz and sevenths-elevenths-ninths

Don't get caught up in the name game. Notes first. Names later.

Your original question was what are these 9ths 11ths or 13ths, where do they come from and how can I get some out of my mando?

    +1

As previously posted. I need an excuse to buy more instruments. In the words of Br'ar Rabbit, "Please please please don't throw me into that briar patch."

Re: Baby Taylor vs Little Martin

http://www.smallguitars.com looks like it might have some candidates in the price/size/quality range I'd be comfortable experimenting on.

Re: My first Tenor - String Questions

The strings came in several days ago and I quickly changed into a set. And on direct comparison the D and A courses felt a looser. The C and G courses tightened up a little. I have to really guess I...

Re: My first Tenor - String Questions

    Thanks. Very helpful.

The BR-40T is ~23" scale. I'll probably just try that out for a bit. I alternate between fingers and picks depending on whether I can find the latter or not. I've been a...

My first Tenor - String Questions

A Blueridge BR-40T. Plays great. Sounds great. Great volume. My only complaint is the bass strings are intonated a few cents sharp and the bridge needed a smidge of file work on a sharp corner....

Re: J.Bovier F5 Special Amber Gloss

I guess I identified it incorrectly. It is an F5Z. Not sure how to describe the sound of it, as I'm a novice on the mando. It has that typical bluegrass sound. Sounds tremendously better than a 70's...

    J.Bovier F5 Special Amber Gloss

Pulled the trigger on a new J.Bovier F5 Special Amber recently. Much nicer than my original Harmony from some years back.

Re: Improvising help! I'm getting desperate!

Right. Some notes, phrases or chords just make less sense in one idiomatic context than they may in another. Sometimes you want to get in someones face because you're angry and other times you want...

Re: Good source for learning some chord theory?

    A G69/B would be, as I understand it, start with a G 7th substituting a 6th for the 7th then add a 9th with a B in the bass.

    G7 is spelled G, B, D, F flatted to an E(the 6th) and add an A above...

Re: Improvising help! I'm getting desperate!

    +1 to Dr. H's method.

Practice your scales and chords to get your "vocabulary" down.
Learn a little theory to get your "grammar" down for the above.
Train your ear --> play along with the TV,...
