Re: Humidity in Case vs Room

If you insist on humidifying in the case, use those humidifiers that keep the rh% around 50, They can both release and absorb humidity.

I would just have brought them at 50% and then put them in...

  5. Re: Cost of sending a mandolin from US to EU?

    How much?

The problem is that most sellers don't want to discuss shipping, they just do as usual, as the customer pays!! And he does, twice, because VAT is calculated from the buying price PLUS...

I often see a nice mandolin for sale in the US but the...

    A little new arrived.

These rarities don't come often, so you have to seize the opportunity, although I haven't even restored the previous one.

    Re: Restoration of a Silvestri

I just tried my UV lamp for amber finding and there is no fluorescence from shellac. It turns a bit yellow but so does lacquer from a can and grease.
  12. Re: Looking for a Mandola and I need some advice.

When buying something, f.x. an instrument, the highest jump in quality is when you go from nothing to something(excluding junk you have discard)

Thereafter you get less and less increase the more...
  13. Re: Looking for a Mandola and I need some advice.

I think the best price/quality is to be had with the Hora mandola. It's amazing what you get for that little money. And if you decide to buy a more expensive one, you can play this while you save for...

    Re: Restoration of a Silvestri

I am yet to coe across an instrument totally without finish. 2 or layers of shellac will be almost unnoticeable. So I think you can clean it with alcohol and then use shellac after that. You...

I epoxyed a Neodymmagnet to that kind of pickup and put another magnet inside the instrument and moved it around untill I found the best spot. No drilling or modification to the instrument.
