Is this the darker side of mando-porn?
About 5 blocks to Mitchell Music Company of Floyd Virginia-- Southwest Virginia's newest string shop, just across the street from the Floyd Country Store's Friday Night Jamboree.
If I HAD to pick a favorite, it would be No. 2 with DGQ. They are all such good musicians and that Grisman-flavored jazz puts me on Cloud 9.
If you enjoy learning from books as your post seems to suggest and you really want to know more about theory (I struggle with it as well), I found "Edly's Music Theory for Practical People" by Ed...
I might add: beautiful control and transitions in the left hand!
Thanks, Jim, that's perfect; I have that recording. All I have to do is work out a couple of those transitions and I'm set.
Does anyone have notation (preferred) or TAB for "When You And I Were Young Maggie"? I would like to play this for my wife's birthday in February. Actually I would settle for chords... I'm not very...
Mine plays like cottage cheese... but maybe that's because I don't practice enough.
Yup, every day. I usually don't log in unless I want to post (which is rarely), so the date in the corner doesn't mean much. As a relative beginner, I generally reap more than I sow.
Question to Don S.:
For extra reach, I often rotate my thumb until it's almost parallel to the neck. Is this a reasonable technique for a beginner?
By the way, I love your music. Being on a...
I agree 100%. That's a great instructional video technique. This concept could flatten the learning curve considerably if it becomes widely adopted.
Thanks,
Rick
I already did, although not specifically for bluegrass music. In Floyd, Virginia we enjoy a wide variety of music on a weekly basis. Not every genre is represented, but for a town of just over 400...

I've had an Epiphone MM-50 for over a year now and I'm very happy with it. I did put a Weber cast tailpiece on it that I bought cheap on Ebay but I've never really felt the need to spend a lot more...
Hi Scott,
You may change my ID to Rick Parrish.
Great tune! I just downloaded the tabledit files the other day after hearing Floyd, VA guitarist Bernie Coveney play it at a birthday party for local fiddle builder Arthur Conner (who just turned...
One more SWVA town: Narrows, VA = Nars (rhymes with cars).
Any of you pickers get extra credit if you know the county in which Floydfest is held!
Now up in the Shenandoah Valley, you have to...
In Bahai communities, we still listen to a lot of Seals and Crofts as well as solo pieces by Dash (they're both Bahai as well as Jim's brother, Dan aka "England Dan". I don't know if you've heard,...

A man with an Ellis, a Collings and no tools... there's a serious case of MAS. I hope the kids had shoes this past winter. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
Below is my email exchange with the reporter from the Seattle Times that first reported on Eddie's "ukeleles" (perhaps he told her that because he though she wouldn'd know the difference and would...
Virginia, California, Virginia, California, Virgnia. Figured out that a place is only what you make it. I'm staying in the New River Valley of Virginia for the duration. I'm a Hokie too! I went to...
This CD is also available for download from emusic, where I get most of my music these days (Lots of Garcia & Grisman).
I have an Epiphone MM-50 and I'm enjoying it very much. I had it set up by a local luthier and it looks and sounds great for $499! I snagged a Weber cast tailpiece on ebay for $50 but I haven't put...
I need to get me one of those for the next time my playing stinks up the place! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
